Thanks Granny. He has a rare type of muscular dystrophy called Bethlem Myopathy, that was just diagnosed a couple of years ago. He has had it all his life, but didn't know it until the symptoms became severe. He is okay, but suffers a lot of pain. Two other family members were also recently diagnosed with it. My mom is 88, legally blind, and mostly deaf (but we finally got hearing aids--yay!) I spend most of my days looking after her. She is still ambulatory, and we walk in the yard most days, but she forgets anything that happened 5 minutes ago.

eggsessive, you know the boat i am in. My husband just turned 77 friday, i am 25 yrs. his jr. I see it every day as well as you. it is very scary and depressing. and for some reason the holidays make it so much harder. the worst thing we can do is be depressed. I am fighting that very hard right now. Tom has muscle cramps pretty bad. I dont know why. I try to encourage the sunshine for him and he takes a flexiril every night before bed. he has been on them for yrs. he also takes potassium and vitamin D. you would be surprised how many of us living in the winter months are deficient. Potassium of course has to be monitored by the dr. because too much or too little can easily throw the heart out of whack and possibly cause heart attack. I miss my mom beyond words. its been 6 months already and it still dont seem real. I have to say , i have lost plenty and its the hardest. I think of her as i sit here watching my husband knowing this may well be his last Christmas and i want to make the most of it that i can. hold her, tell her everything if it seems appropriate or not. live with no regrets. yes, its gonna be lonesome but you will know, you did what you had in you to do.

Suzierd, is there bears where you live? yikes !!! I wouldnt be asking for a camera, i would want a shotgun ! I didnt mention when i was telling about those critters, their eye sight is very poor. probably why it didnt make it across the road . it is genetic though so your chances of seeing another are better then most.

Oh yes, I've seen them several times up the hill. One time I was riding my four wheeler and rode in between a momma bear and her cub scared the heck out of me I just floored it hoping she wouldn't come back over the edge of the road! My husband was behind me and he said "you didn't even slow down!" Well heck no I didn't slow down! Lol I was getting the heck out of there. I still don't think their down the mountain this far. I know it's possible but I think there's to many homesteads to cross and plenty of wilderness to roam away from people's houses and dogs. And I haven't seen any signs.
We have guns when needed I don't like to kill animals I'm a huge animal lover unless it has to be done. I'm still upset about the dogs getting that kitty.

I didn't know the White Coons didn't see good, seems like coons in general get hit on the road a lot.

Don't you have bears Granny? Here's one on my friends porch thinking about going inside! Yikes, she lives out in the boonies.

no, i dont believe there are bears around here but not 100% sure. I know i wouldnt need to see it but once. you are lucky the mama didnt come after you. If you stare at that picture when its small, I would swear that its moving. I hope i am not getting ready for another migraine

Almost home! It will be dark and raining, so I still won't see the chickens tonight. :(

I didn't bring any home with me, either. My father in law had SO MANY bantams, and a silkie in every color, but he wanted to keep the silkies. The bantams were cute, but not for me, so I declined. He had a nest with about 20+ eggs, so I guess I'll have to call him grampy hatchet. :lau

He had a phoenix hen, too. Really pretty. His silky roo was pretty. He actually has several roos, but I guess they all get along.

So no new chickens for me. I'm actually really happy with my flock right now, I guess because I haven't seen them in 10 days. I may change my tune come spring. ;)

LOL, I am glad you are home. good thing i wasnt with you. probably be stuffing them in my pockets. especially the phoenix hen. my little roo would thank me. lol did you have a good time? I am going to have to put my foot down to get my daughter to come see me looks like.

Maybe you will be surprised in the morning and your coop will be cleaned.

I have a loft style barn like you can (did) buy from lowes. it is 10x12 I think. double doors. one small window by the door then i added a larger window to the side where most of my wind comes from and more ventilation in the back with a 8x8in. door with chicken wire . this is where my guineas stayed and they free ranged. I want to run electric out there this spring and turn it into a home for seramas. I dont want to be stingy with space for them. if they can fly,( ? ) let them. I will want them separate though. for pairs. If i ever get any. LOL what i cant figure is a run. to make individual runs for each pr. and be able to access the run would be hard work and a lot of money I am thinking. plus to make that many holes in the barn is just not something i want to do. so how do they get their grass and sunshine without me standing out there half the day letting them take turns ? Feel like i should be working on a hamster maze .
