Hello all. Well we finally have puppies!!! Stayed up with Lu until about 3:30 nothing happening then about 9:30 this morning I am work up by a screaming pup. Yep on my bed lo not so interested and another pup on the floor not moving. UFFDA running around the bedroom in my birthday suit trying to revive a pup (no such luck) and a beautiful liver and white female. So grab clothes and head up to whelping.puppie box. Had 4 more all black and white. Then nothing for 1 1/2 hours but I am convinced that there is another pup in there still and so is my assistant. So emergency call to the vet meet her assistant at the clinic and xrays nope nothing in there other then what should be. So back home $233.00 lighter. Really not bad did talk to vet as tech email the vet pics. But guess it is worth the peace of mind that Lu is fine and no more DOA's. Total living is 1 liver and white female, 2 black and white females and 2 black and white males. Names since there weren't 8 couldn't use reindeer. Ended up with Drummer Boy, and Shepherd for the boys. Noel for liver and white female. One of the black and white will be Nativity and the one I will be keeping is Beth-La- Hymn. Hymn null was their grandfather. Having hard time chosing which one to keep. Lu 's matinal instinct had finally kicked in. She did jump out of the box after 1 pup delivery had to catch her and put her back in firmly. Also had to help with a couple of the deliveries. All the pups were 10 to 13 ounces. Nice even litter. Toes and tails on Tuesday morn. Yuri (dad) very full of himself and the very very proud father. LOL Missallette got very needed and wanted the pups keep in mind this the evil one who wants nothing to do with conception and does everything in her power to stop her sister from getting any. All the pups are mainly colored with 40% or less white. Washing bedding now and trying to stay awake. 3 pups with no coffee or cigarette is tuff on this man.

Twisted, congrats on the new pups! In the Springer world, is there a preference for males or females? I've got so used to everyone here hoping for pullets that I can't help but think you did well with more females. Is either sex easier to train?

Granny, the new digs for the cat food chicks sounds great. What a lot of work you've done! Hope you don't pay for it too much tomorrow, but at least you won't have the worry of those chicks being stuck in the brooder.

Congrats twisted !!!

5 puppys is awesome am so happy for you. in the bed ? LOL thats the one i dreamed of the liver and white. hahahaaa hope we get pictures

Personally I think females are easier to train but it also depends on the personality of the owner. My brother should never have a female. Usually the females sell first then black and white males then the liver and white males. MY personal preference is black and white females. Mom and babies are doing well puppies happy 9 dinner plates and they still fight over who gets what LOL. Lu got an egg and some bread to help with possible indigestion from eating all the puppy sacks and afterbirths. Se if finally sleeping. Still doing laundry nothing like puppy "juices" in your bed. Sounds like maybe granny should name the roo with tap shoes Sammy Davis or Fred or Gene. Have to get some puppy chow tomorrow sigh I hate walmart.

Tap dance shoes = little poopy toes. ( a little piece of poop gets on the toe and dries, later the chick steps on another piece of poop and it sticks to the already dried poop. Pretty soon you have these little balls of poop on their toes.) when they run across the kitchen floor they make little tapping noises. Sounds gross but it really is kind of cute!

Aww cute, just have never heard the term used :) Just got home from a all day family Christmas celebration. I'm pooped and I didnt do all the physical work you've done the past couple of days. Locked down 4 eggs tonight, will have more tomorrow. I'm thinking mine might run late. I've really struggled with the temps this time. Time will only tell. None of the 4 had internally pipped when I candled them before they went into lockdown.

I bred and showed Cockers many years ago, and everyone wanted females- unless a male was truly outstanding, it was hard to place. I doubt very much if things have changed. Some folks keep a male hoping for stud fees, and to save stud fees by using him on their own females. But again, unless he is outstanding, he won't improve your stock and won't attract high stud fees. I know "females," is not the word dog people use, but, using the correct one is not meant for a family friendly site such as BYC.

I love Springers and was around in the old days When "Salilyn" springers, dominated the breed and BIS rings. - whether black and white or liver & white, her dogs were breathtaking. I well remember her "Aristocrat" dog.

I raised and bred Australian Shepherds. I had waiting lists for females, no matter what color they were. Blue merle males were not terribly hard to find homes for. But, the rest of the males never left the kennel until they were house trained and had proven they were going to do well with obedience.
