At least if the pipes burst they'll be his problem.

My DD and hers just moved in. They had a crap landlord too. Lets hope the new one is better.      Course their new place comes with built in Grampa and Gramma.   

If you have some snow I'd pile it up over the cardboard.  Here in NY we have renters rights.  I would still put some "Stuff" in the space where the sheathing doesn't meet the house or at least some newspaper or other insulation.  

I did. I stapled cardboard to the side of the house, it goes all the way to the ground. Anyway, the pipes are thawed this morning.....

He has already had to fix the pipes once this year. I told him some heat tape would solve this problem. He answered, so would running the water!

Here is the clencher...... He runs the gray water from the house out on to the "garden plot". The neighbor also has told me that ALL of the remodeling he did on the house was done without a building permit. No wonder if I don't turn off one of the heaters before I use the microwave the whole house shuts down.

that is terrible Enola, so you are watering the garden as well. make sure you get the harvest then.

The ground is so sour now that only weeds grow there. I garden in pots on the back deck.

I think mine is sour as well. trees are close to the same size they were when i planted 8-9 yrs. ago. those that didnt die anyway. I planted over 600 trees here. not counting bushes, shrubs, flowers and vines. hahahaa guess thats where the heart attacks came in. so now i just sit and wait for something to take a hold.

If you are on city water and he's paying then let the water run. Of course here in Syracuse if the bill gets to high they shut the water off.

I wrote to our paper years ago that rentals should be registered and they are now. This way there is no way for a slumlord to hide. Plus any who receive money from the state for rent require an inspection.

The water bill is in my name. I would not be living here if I could find a place with lower rent that will allow me to have my animals. The house is structurally sound, just needs some improvents he is not willing to do. The only option I have is involve a lawyer or move. So, I am moving to ND. Once I get there, I will be in the position to buy my own home.
