Good morning all! sorry to hear about you getting stuck in the snow. That happend to me last Thursday. I had to go out and clean the horses stall (we don't own the barn). It had just snowed 8 inches and they ensured me that the driveway was plowed. When we got there, the drive way was completly coverd in a sheet of snow. The owner of the barn said "Yhea, You can make it." Then I stupidly belived him and went for it. I made it down the first time but when I tried to go back up, it got stuck. It was a whole five degrees and was getting colder. I called the barn owner to get us out. 20 minutes later, I was out and on my way home.

Well granny, proves you picked a good one! I feel bad for poor SIL. Seems like he tries to help out, just doesn't have the gift for driving on snow. Heck, you wouldn't want to see me backing up a trailer. Not a pretty sight!

Wish you were having better luck with those Seramas. The rooster I sold was incredibly docile and attentive to the hens. He let one hen pull out his neck feathers all the time. He'd hold real still while she plucked away. Never drew blood, though. I didn't take it there was something wrong with the rooster, but that the hen was nutso. The little cockerel I have left scoots out of the way of hen squabbles, but he is very protective and attentive. He will chase away a hens from the other flock that are literally 5 times his size. Like a ferocious little Chihuahua fending off pit bulls! Tiny but fearless. Hope your luck changes. They are fun little birds.

Feather picking can be a sign of a nutrition problem. Do some research since I don't remember what all it is.

good morning I am glad to see my rooster is not the only one that gets plucked. I have to guess that its some sort of ritual to test the rooster maybe or they are actually checking to see if he is good father material. I am not getting stuck anywhere today unless its in my easy chair. sun is shining , first time in a while. Twist, do pups get fever with the shots like babies do? I wasnt thinking along those lines. of course i havent been doing much thinking at all lately. So, using only one wafer last night i kept the bator at 104 all night. so the other switch is probably sticking. that means there was nothing wrong with the wafers i had. I either buy another switch or just use the one and hope it doesnt fail.

Feather picking from protein shortage is generally walk-by peck here and there and then eat it.

When hens stand there and pull feather after feather and the rooster lets them, that is grooming gone wrong more than anything.


I don't think I would breed any hens doing that.

They were raised together from chicks. She was very jealous of the other pullets we added later, and that's when the picking began. She didn't go after any any else, just her rooster. I ended up selling them to a young man who wanted Serama, but didn't want to breed. He knew about the picking problem and was okay with it. That rooster was a real sweetheart, but the hen was causing problems in the flock. I didn't have the heart to separate them.

It had my first name "the weasel" last name.

Anyhow this weasel didn't get away.
