Speckled sussex and French black copper marans under the SS roo.
Very sorry she was a beautiful hen. I wonder if she got a head injury from a peck.I'm getting to the point where I refuse to have a favorite chicken. It seems to doom them. Lost my Silkie broody hen Saturday. She was fine on Friday when I put her out to eat with all the other broodies. She was fine Sat morning when my son put them out to eat, but on Sat eve she could not walk when he put her out before lock up. I couldn't find anything physically wrong, put her under a heat lamp, gave her a drop of vitamins and forced a few drops of water. Offered her some egg, which she didn't eat and decided to let her rest for a bit before I tried again. She was dead in an hour.
No one else is having any problems.
Sweet little Edna Mode
Here she is with the rest of the broodies during enforced time out of the nest box.
Quote: Thanks. She was the top hen so everyone respected her, even the young Orps, but you know how weird they get when they're broody. Could a peck really cause her death? Something about their skulls? She made it up 3 cinder block steps and a ramp by herself to get back to the nest. Was pretty thin though, which was why I made sure she ate.
breeding 2 frizzles together produces frazzle. I had one and it was butt ugly. its head and butt were bald. couldnt tell if it was coming or going . lol so what bobby says is right, the feathers are just so very brittle. I am pretty sure i dont have a pink chicken either. not unless one of the kids grabbed on with sticky fingers. Too much wine ?? SS= speckled sussex .and no I am not wearing rose colored glasses or on any medications.![]()
