You might try giving her panacure for 5 days in a row, that will kill any worm that is known to get in chickens. I have seen the dose described as 'pea sized' for each bird.

I know a lady that rescues horses...... She had a nearly starved mare give birth to a foal. The mare was slowly gaining weight after being wormed. But, the goal just was not doing as good. The vet advised her to worm the foal, with just a small dosage. The foal struggled and caused the entire dose in the syringe to be administered. The vet told her not to worry, panacure was very safe it wild not hurt the foal.

There were no side affects.....

Thanks everyone :hugs I may try that enola on the 5 day dose with her. She does seem a little more perky now. Her tail is higher and she moving around a little more. I thought she was broody as she was showing the same symptoms as the other polish I had go broody and she seems to have puffed up a bit. She's not thin got plenty of meat on her so I thought she was adding a bit more fat to be broody.

Have you heard of worms becoming resistant to some wormers? Over here they are apparently developing some new ones or something due to over worming. For the horse I've been sending samples off to the vet for worm counts. They then let you know if you need to worm or not if the count is over a certain level.

Back to human life now!! Charlie has had his 2 teeth out ready for him to have his brace fitted next month. I have to say he was very brave when she put the injections in :barnie I thought he would have been worse but he took it well. Out popped the teeth but boy there was a lot of blood!! He was more panicky about the blood loss than the teeth coming out. Bit off packing though and it soon stopped. Just can't believe his mouth is not big enough for all his teeth!!

10% Panacur or 10% Safeguard horse paste can be given *exactlly* like the liquid. The amount I use is 0.5ml per kg (~0.23 ml per pound).
Weighed empty 6cc (ml) syringe

Filled with Panacur 10% paste and weighed. Difference is 6 grams, so 6 grams = 6cc's (ml)

I was curious about this "pea sized" amount, so I measured it. 50 mg/kg for five days is what my vets recommended.

From left to right:

  • Small = 10mg ( .1cc) = enough for a 200 gram (7 ounce) bird at 50mg/kg
  • Medium = 25mg (.25cc) = enough for a 500 gram (17 ounce) bird at 50mg/kg
  • Large = 50mg ( .5cc) = enough for a 1000 gram (35 ounce) bird at 50mg/kg

This happens a lot, and I think I read somwhere that it's safe up to 100x, but don't quote me on that. Quest Gel, not as safe and I think that there may have been some fatalities with people giving too much to foals, but again, don't quote me on that.
