the first one i did the other day (not first ever) was much easier to do . I noticed (I notice these things) his balls were much smaller then the 2 i did yesterday. those 2 would almost put my old man to shame.

Just wonder if thats why they stunk so bad. ?

No no no. The pullets (there are four in the tractor) are 3 months old. The cockerel by himself is 6 weeks.

The older a chicken is the stronger the smell is. Since I have been feeding fermented feed I have noticed a BIG difference in the smell when I open a chicken up. I don't know how that would make a difference, but it does.

@enola do full grown roosters stink when you clean them ? will they smell like that when they are cooked ? or taste gamely ?

When I butcher older chickens, I salt the inside and then let them sit in the refrigerator for 3-4 days before I freeze them or cook them. No they don't stink when you cook them.

Is the smell worse ? my mom would get sausage sometimes and as soon as it started cooking she would get mad and throw it away. said it hadnt been denutted. It would smell like that.

I still dont have anything thawing out for dinner. wish i had some hamburger buns. those pattys look good. no tomato either so i am holding out for those. I added 5 hens to my LF coop about a week ago I think. when would it be safe to let them start free ranging again. their old coop is right next to it and I dont let those out.
