Welcome mutt. I've just caught up on the thread not long ago. There's some great people and very knowledgeable people on this thread. It does get crazy at times and I have a great time on here. I'm sure you'll get some great information and you get to join in on grannys comedy hour. If you get picked on once in awhile, that means everyone likes you lol .

Hey, @Mutt Farmglad you found your way in here, enjoy your posts on the rest of the forum and look forward to them here too. Do tell about the straw garden

Well, i'm no expert, but had a go at straw bale gardening. We don't have "soil" here. We have DG.

Even with amended soil, my garden tanked every summer. I tried raised beds, shade cloth, regular tilled garden beds. The roots cooked in the 100 deg heat. I hoped straw bales would be the miracle cure, I'm older than I am young, don't like bending over too much, I really liked the straw bales. Downside was I had to put tons of chemical amendments in to season the bales. Every time you water, the nutrients leech out. Upside was that as soon as the natural decomposition process began, I planted and raised a beautiful garden that doesn't die. I goofed up the first year by planting on a slope. IMO, it's not the miracle no maintenance garden, but after a couple years, it's still my favorite method. Mind you...I think if you live somewhere where it actually rains more than twice a year? I'd bet you'd be more pleased then I.

Howdy roost! TY for replying! Ya'll are funny! No worries here!

Lol. You and I are at different ends of the country. We got lots of rain this year. I didn't have a garden because I decided to have heart problems instead. I would have really preferred the garden. I have read about it and have lots of high quality chicken and duck crap. The idea of not bending so far appeals to me. I don't know it all but I have gardened since I was little and I know some. I figure we can all learn together.

This is a good time for some of us to start thinking about next springs garden or even a fall garden.

I gotta have my hands in the dirt or I will not be happy.

Hello everyone! Its me, the semi- stalker!

Have one more page to be caught up, just wanted to say congrats on the silkies Roost!
