I will say that layers i got from a breeder lay more eggs than my hatchery BRs also my breeder roos have been way larger than hatchery ones.
 
I think it varies by breeder just as much as by breed. If they're only breeding for color or size conformation, then you lose egg production or temperament.

The breeder I've chosen for speckled sussex chooses for production and temperament first, size and color second. That's why I believe his are the best and I'm willing to shell out the money. DH isn't on board quite yet...

Also I feel like show stock is different from "backyard" heritage stock. Just like show labs and proven hunting stock. Does that make sense? The two standards don't necessarily overlap much.

having to cut off a body part in order to be "perfect" is so wrong on many different levels. its pretty extreme . its not a hair cut, it hurts them poor things and I will never be so "into the show" that I would do something like that.
 
lily is ok . thanks for asking.. Someone commented on her today finally. I looked into their facebook account and he had a couple posts about when he was "getting out". he had just "got out". I didnt respond back to him..

Red, sometimes thats all it takes.
