Looks good. If that's particle board, I would make sure it's well coated with paint.

Rather than the cubes I'd go for the small "bales" sold for pets like bunnies, etc - the cubes are really hard and even large, toothed animals (ie horses) can have a hard time with them in their dry form. One thing you can do with the cubes is to soak them with water - this will cause them to separate out and fluff up -- it is also a great way to get more hydration into whatever you are feeding them to.

Yep - their bodies tell them what they need, similar to how our bodies can cause us to crave certain things when we need a particular mineral, vitamin, etc.
