Quote: I think the millennials were set up to fail. Everything in their life is scheduled, controlled, and overseen by an adult- organized sports, monitored after-school activities, boring "safe" playgrounds. Playground monitors won't let them play tag. They can't walk home alone without someone calling the police on their parents. The kids never get to make decisions, and more importantly, suffer the consequences of their own decisions. No more kick-the-can or neighborhood football games. No more wandering in the woods. No more thinking for themselves- Is that a poisonous snake? Should I climb that old rotten tree? Should we go play in the swollen river? The parents are more worried about their kids having hurt feelings than learning how to persevere and overcome the hard parts of life. Self esteem does not come from a trophy for participation (all the kids know it's empty praise). Self esteem comes from learning and demonstrating hard learned skills and knowledge and being able to perform as good or better than others around you. I actually feel sorry for the millennials. But they still drive me crazy.
