Cooked butternut squash for supper. Dh asked if it was edible. I was offended til he reminded me of what I cooked last month. I cleaned out the pantry and made cornbread for the chickens using mealy worm cornmeal, year old oatmeal baby food, mashed potatoe flakes, instant rice. While it was cooling I went to the garden to pick peppers. Dh came home and made him a bowl of cornbread and buttermilk. He ate it before I came back in. I also baked it in dirty pan and stirred it with dirty spoon. He said it tasted good when I told him what he ate. It didn t make him sick. Guess that hot oven killed thr bacteria and meal worms.

Mike and I went grocery shopping right after I got shingles. He saw sweet potato pie filling on the clearance cart and begged me to buy it. So, I did. Whipped it up and baked it when we got home, despite how bad I felt....... It tasted HORRIBLE ! I couldn't even finish my slice. He ate his whole slice, even after I tried to convince him it was OK if he didn't. The next day he wanted me to feed the remainder of it to my chickens.

I don't think so!!! If it is so bad I can't eat it, I am NOT going to feed it to my chickens!!!!

Don't give up on the muff/beard issue - one of our chicks that hatched last year lays the prettiest green (I know, you're looking for blue, lol) eggs and has no muff or beard, she does have some small wattles.

I have EE hens with no beard or muff, a straight comb and yellow legs! So don't give up yet.
