MYTH OR FACT ? do chickens go into a coma state after dark? I think not! i have 2 nest boxes with 2 hens to each one. i didnt want them to set. i have enough. they didnt care what i thought. seeing as i cant keep up with days i just know its been a while. soo, i went out tonight well after dark with thoughts of coyotes, foxes and all the other things that go bump in the night. first nest, 16 eggs, one fertile. silkie and cochin hen. sweet girls. put the good egg back and let them figure out who gets it. on to the second nest. not sure of breeds, maybe black tailed buff and the other looks like coffee w/ cream very tiny girls. 3 eggs under the first one all ready to hatch, one looked like an internal pip, i dont know about the second one because as i was giving the first ones eggs back, i got attacked by them both !! with only one finger bleeding and my pride in the dirt i came back in the house. worries of wild animals long gone.
Here's one granny.

Om Gosh you guys ! what a funny day for me . I have been pictured by the police.

Let me explain .
I went tocvs got the meds and decided to buy lunch. Worst mistake of the day. everyone wants something different. I got subway, took tom to mcdonalds then headed to DQ for robert. waiting in line there is a small patch of grass between DQ and the state police. Sitting in that small patch of grass is a black rooster.

I asked DQ just how fresh their chicken is ? they told me the roo had been there since friday. I asked if they had gave it water ? Nope

So, off to the police i go with tom yelling at me . I went in and explained to them that even though that may be their dinner it was still cruelty to animals and shame on them ! Not all I said of course but they claimed they didnt know it was out there. I offered them my net to use if they wished to stop by and get it. I also suggested they give the poor thing some water. So after feeling better about doing my part I get home and they have already called. they called again 5 min. later and asked that I bring my net and a box and they would catch it. so back to town again. talking about a name and wishing i had video because I know this is gonna be good. Tom and I started with Wilber, po-po and ended up with Sargent Murdock from lethal weapon. (danny glover) FOG, It was everything I expected and more !

2 of them chased that rooster for a good half hr. every where around that cop station and one of them was huffing so hard I thought sure he would pass out. They were afraid of it. hahaaa they finally got it cornered and smacked that net over him and I had to take him out of the net. they now have my picture and the one that caught it and the roosters. ready for this ? I asked the names and they were trooper Black and Sargent Murdock. I about died ! hahaaaa His (the rooster) is now in my care . Last i seen he as still eating. Not sure what he is but looks like the rooster we were talking about eiriler ! white earlob and every thing else is black big arching tail. blue sheen and very young. barely has the start of a spur.

it was a little windy here today. i went to gather eggs from the guinea coop which is one of those buildings like they sell at lowes. thats where i bought it, last winter.so its just a month or two over a year old. anyway, i have an eye latch on the inside double door that i hook when i dont want them out. i latched it, went to reach for the eggs, i got one in my hand when the wind caught the door and ripped the whole door off !! not at the hinge oh no, that would of been too easy. it took one door and the whole frame with it!!!   i have an egg in one hand, corn in the other and a door flipping away from me. what to drop? not my egg of course or the corn. i tried to catch the door with my body. ( sigh) does this crap happen to everyone? i bet it weighs 50 lb or more. i have it propped up with 4x4s right now. someone please tell me, how am i going to get that thing back up by myself? the wind is supposed to be strong for the next 2 days. i cant get to them to feed or water without moving the whole thing. and you know whats bothering me the most? i didnt get the other 2 eggs. lol       on a good note i went to my first chicken workshop and meet Twain Lockhart ( aka, Mr. Cluck) a poultry specialist from one of our sponsors at Nutrena . he mentioned us here at BYC and said this was a great place to come for advise and there was a lot of helpful people on this site. i also threw in about reaching the 250 thousand mark. i hope that was right.  and i told everyone this is an awesome place to be. :D
Here's the other one.

I am totally impressed !! I tried and got no where nor do I see a green arrow but I am sure this is enough ammo . Thanks you both !
