Atti I always use the carcass. Our thanksgiving turkey gets boiled down for gumbo. When I have a whole chicken I do it in the crock pot, then we pick out what we want to eat with rice and veggies. Everything else goes overnight. In the morning I pick it again and use the meat for jambalaya, and all the liquid goes to stock. It's like eating the same bird three different times.

The other day I made a nice roast chicken -- the boys (DH and DS) thought it was a big treat, little did they realize that my end goal was the yummy chicken and dumplings I was going to make the next day with the carcass --- it's my favorite part of Thanksgiving, too, not the meal itself but the soup the next day.

Better now I have dry warm clothes on

Got soaked doing the horses and of course with it being wet and cold they were acting up

Just hard work today trudging through mud and slop, knees are aching today with the cold and damp. As soon as the birds are locked up for the night I'm going to frazzle myself in a red hot bath!!
Eeeek! Nothing worse than being wet and cold - hope you get a nice, long, hot bath!!

It's true. I lose all thermometers. Mom is here. Mom to the rescue!!
Sounds like my house, I own plenty of thermometers, locating one is another issue. The one in the animal first aid box is always there, but knowing how it is used there is no amount of cleaning that would convince me to use it for oral temp taking - so it's usually a long hunt for a human use one and it always ends up being in the strangest places.

mornin all another cold day here in KY
Oy, you aren't kidding, snow yesterday, freezing a** cold today and supposed to be up to 70 in a few days, gotta love spring. SO over the cold this year and it wasn't even *that* cold or nasty this winter.........must be my age setting in, lol

about 53 years

Wocka-Wocka-Wocka!

Sounds like a plan to me - not everything has to be Ft Knox, especially if you are aware of it's shortcomings as far as security - I've toyed with the idea of adding either poultry netting or something else (netting hadn't occurred to me) to the pasture fence to keep our birds more contained when they are out of the coop/run and am not looking for it to keep anything out, just keep the birds in.

Oh yeah. And $20 for 100ft of netting is much easier to swallow than however much for chicken wire or hardware cloth.

Especially since everything I do for the chickens here is temp. We're only renting.

Mind if I pick your brain a bit - since you are renting can I ask how you approached the idea of chickens with your landlord and how open/resistant to them they were when you asked?

Hi all, Slept the day away. I have one baby holding on by a thread. I havent tried to help it any. Tom woke me up after 4 saying he hadnt ate all day and neither had I. I got up and made us some cold sandwiches and he said his sugar is over 400. How could that be if he hadnt ate ? Well, he has a couple donuts is all. 3 to be exact and one of them cake things which also happens to be a donut. And he cant make himself a sandwich ?
ol mare forgot to show you the heat cold pack you made me I use it every day but not for what you would think. LOL I "pop" the seeds in it and use it like a worry stone. I have used it for a heating pad as well for my neck but I mostly play with it all day.

Linda, Is your son feeling any better ?
