Anyone know what kind of bug this is? They came out when I flipped up Lagertha's curtain.

Do the bugs have little thin snouts? For some reason they look like weevils, but I really can't see them well. Look at the eggs under Lagertha. You'll see mites crawling on the eggs if she got them.

What breed is the chocolate baby? Is it silkied?

The last time I posted the bugs we all decided they weren't mites. I sevined the crap out of the tractor and let it sit awhile before I put them in. But there they are, living in the crevices of her nest. Choco chick is most likely EE (EE hen under amerecauna x HRIR roo). I saw the RIR breeding hens today, but I don't think he was four weeks ago. Edit: not silkied. I don't have anything with those genes, though KYTinpusher has educated me on the wooly honas, which carry a silky gene. Some of the GFF imports are like that and I :love LOVE :love them.

Those could have came from the hay maybe. Had to google weevils. Icky!!

I could go on about how "breed standards" end up destroying the lines....look at the American line German shepherds now and all the problems with hip dyslexia and such since the breed standard seems to cater to the slopey bum. Sigh.

Course the hardcore breeder people would have an apolexy with my flock. They're all feed store specials, and honestly they all do just fine.

Just my uneducated two cents.

Quote: ummmm why wouldnt you? a few questions thats all!

I would never on purpose sell chicks for snake food. They are supposed to be RIR but I think they are production reds. sexed females 6 of them .
hmmmmm I may or may not think about that. Having had snakes they need to eat too. but chicks are much cuter than mice

I had red mites in the pen in the garage. It has a wooden frame around the base to keep shavings in, vinyl floor and wire sides. Eggs hatched out a year after chicks were gone and the whole thing had been taken apart and sprayed with orange oil mite killer and coated with DE. Ha. Took it apart again and sprayed everything with strong bleach water. Cage was empty for a year, and mites hatched out again!

I got flea spray with permethrin. That's the only thing that killed them off.

If you think they are mites, check the hen around her vent. It will be hard to see on her dark skin. Maybe a flashlight? Will she bite you?
