I took a little nap. We had Popeyes for lunch and enough left for supper. I need to jump up and clean some stuff, but I'm still sleepy.

Staff will be here in one week!! :celebrate The internationals are coming a bit later. Can't wait to have all my 20-somethings. :love

Chicks held for 48 hours in hatcher machines lost 12.5% to 21.7% of their hatching weight and 79.4% of the hatching weight of the yolk sac.
Normal 10-day mortality from this hatchery in winter months was observed to be 2.4% but was reduced to 1.2% when staggered setting times of donor flocks was employed by removing chicks from the machines 3 hours after 100% hatch, but was increased to 5.6% by holding chicks in the hatchery in chick boxes for 24 hours at 70±C.

So just because they CAN go that long doesn't mean they SHOULD.

I think I am done for the day. Still cant find anything about the gallbladder but I havent give up. I dont want to eat a sick duck. I dont know how to cook it either . I saved the breast with first section of wing attached and thigh and leg meat. Wish I had took pictures. I skinned it. the fat layer was super thick and it went with the skin. Lungs were totally different then chickens. Lots of chambers or branches there. It was not hard to skin and I plucked a few feathers just because I had heard it was hard . Not that bad. Not the down anyway. way more blood then a chicken and the inside was harder to pull out but over all skinning it was just as easy if not more so then a chicken. IMO

Im pretty much embarrassed but its the gizzard that was rock hard not the gallbladder. No way it would of cut with a knife. tube was crunchy too.

Blocked Gizzard by Dr. Rob Marshall

Index of Bird Diseases ... Symptoms and Potential Causes ... Bird Species and Diseases They are Most Susceptible to

Your bird has been diagnosed with a blocked gizzard. This is a life threatening disease and your bird may need to stay in hospital until it starts eating. It may take as short as one day, or as long as three days to unblock the gizzard. When the blockage has been present for too long, or when excessive amounts of material are blocking the gizzard, it may be impossible to save your bird. Soft materials and plastic objects may be difficult to unblock as they become impacted and “cement” in the gizzard. Recent sand, wood or dirt blockages are more likely to be unblocked. We manage to save more than 90% of birds presented to us with a blocked gizzard or foreign body obstruction. We always do our best for your much loved pets. Please phone twice daily to check on your bird's progress.

Bet this was it. never did see/find that piece of plastic. I wish I had tried harder to open the gizzard.
