You only need to know the ones that can hurt you! Out here, it's only rattle snakes to worry about, and they have a triangular shaped head. Gopher snakes have similar coloring, but heads are in line with the size of the body.
This guy was in the bantam coop. Only has one eye too.

so which one is this ? Im not sticking around to find out what its head is shaped like !

Oh granny! :hit You get used to it. We actually have a girl on staff who hyperventilates and cries if you just show her a picture of a snake. The others would tease her about it. I told her straight up that she had too strong a character to let anything have a hold on her like that. It was easy to assume she was exaggerating, but she's not really the type of person to call attention to herself. Anyway, I told her it's normal and fine to be afraid, but the moment you allow something to cripple you like that then you are no longer in control of yourself.

She's back this year and said she can look at snake pics now with no reaction.

Is that for your beans ?  needs painting . one word on each board. Love makes a garden grow.

Such a good idea! It's for the cucumbers. The feed store didn't have any peas or beans started. I have some seeds though.

It started as a thing for the goats to climb, then it fell apart, and the nomads fixed it in that shape. The chickens were roosting on it for a while. But I think it's PERFECT as a trellis.

I have killed snakes and I have held them (when I was younger) but how can you weed ? I would be afraid to run my hand down in the weeds or have the littles playing. It good you have the dogs.

I have a trowel and the little three pronged thing. And gloves. And I make a lot of ruckus.

Is it close to the new coop ? Do you have any left over paint ? You could paint it to match then a dark color for the words. I think it would be cute .

My GM got hit with a copperhead in KY so they are probably here too. nearest dr. was 2 hrs. away. She drank some of her cough syrup and poured some on her bites. Hospital said it saved her life.

Quote: That's a gopher snake. Good to have to keep the rodents down. Sad thing is they will mimic a rattlesnake when scared, they curl up and shake the tip of their tail. A lot of them get killed by mistaken identity.

western diamond back rattlesnake will give you plenty of warning if it can. See how much wider the "jaws" are compared to the neck. Different shaped snout too. These aren't even deadly if you can get to a hospital in a couple of hours.
