Why not any help? DD seems to like the idea, but she should still be responsible for clothes and drs and teacher meetings. It's not like you would be adopting him officially, he'd still have 2 parents out there who should be part of his life. And food shouldn't be a problem. I have been known to grumble about taxes, but never for food stamps. It's not even stamps any more, it's like a credit card. Pretty much anyone can qualify. Why suffer? Use the benefit that's offered. You will get through the month a lot easier.
I'm just thinking how much you could impact this child's life for the good. It's a huge thing to take on, though. Especially when you are not well. Maybe think of now as a trail period. See how it goes. In the end, he may be helping you as much as you help him.

I dont think I could get stamps for him without guardianship. I never had them though so dont really know.
