Both my parents grew up in southern Cal, LA metro area, about as far away as you can get from a farm. Funny though that my dad's mom raised hundreds of chicks in her garage every spring (to sell) and my mom's parents always had a few pets. Dog, cat, muscovy duck that used to devil the dog, desert tortoises, and later, when they were older and petless, grandpa made pets out of the local hummingbirds. He had year round feeders and they would perch on his finger. Such tiny little feet they had! One year a huge migrating flock stopped by. There must have been a hundred hummers, swarming the feeders and perched on the tv antenna. Good memories!

thats cool, I got to hold one last year. Its nothing on your finger. This is the first year I have lived here I havent fed them.

i am getting sticky fingers from breakfast and have dinner in the micro. LOL dessert before meals ??

Mmmm... dessert FOR the meals?

I had a bowl of wheat Chex and blueberries for breakfast, and 5 minutes later, half a ham and swiss sandwich for lunch. That should hold me until dinner!

lol thats how its done. donut for breakfast and in 30 min. chicken parma......

I tried feeding them here for a year. We have resident hummers that live here year round. They are vicious little beasts! very territorial. One male would sit out and guard the feeder and only let one female (I think, hard to tell them apart) come to drink. The solution would go bad before even a fraction was used, so I gave up. That, and I had it in front of the kitchen window under the eaves. Maybe a little too close to the window... they pee A LOT!

I believe it was a ruby. thats mostly what we have here. It was trapped in the pole barn. they come in ok but then panic and dont realize they need to drop their height to get back out.

They have gotten caught in spiderwebs in my parents' garage.

Poor little things. The rafters are 2 stories up, so they are hard to get down.
