ours as usually sliced and sugar added then put in fridge to "juice" before using and the frozen ones work just fine as well.

I have a recipe of mom's around here some where to use the leftovers using semi-firm jello cubed angel food leftover berries and additional whipped cream mix all together then you can either chill it or freeze it and then serve it.
