once they are laying that is their color. you can breed her with a more proven blue, and her babies will have more of a blue egg. Green is popular now, just be proud of all the colors.

Now that you have had a chick hatch from a grey egg, they will all be waiting to see what color egg she lays. (Fingers crossed it is a she!)

I feel like I am playing with paints, if these chicks don't lay gray I will have to "muddy" their egg with the opposite color of what ever they lay.

Yes, it would be hard to know what color to use. Since the inside of the shell is white, that tells you it's not blue-based genes, since the blue goes all the way through the shell. The grey must come from whatever bloom is laid down. But you will be in the dark as to know how to adjust that bloom.

Outside genes added in might not help, you may have to resort to inbreeding, and then to strengthening the line. Is the person you got the first grey egg layer from able to help you?

I made my own gray egg using these eggs

purple and green, and I was trying for gray.

The dad of my most recent chick was a blue Isbar/americuan- blue Isbars have this color...
(I wasn't looking for a how to or why, I was just showing what I have.)

So you made this grey egg in the photo with the "purple" egg and the green egg? That is really impressive. Will be nice if you can duplicate it. What kind of chicken laid the purple egg?
