Great Pyrenees, Property listed as Ag, and "city" neighbors

That's why "Right to Farm" laws came into being. People exactly like that who want to live in the country, but don't want the smells and sounds that come with farming. We haven't had any issues yet right in the area where we live and farm, but there are several "country homes" in the area that have changed hands quite a few times and I know it's because country living and having farms for neighbors wasn't what they thought it would be.

Thank you sharing this info! So sorry you had to regime your dog. Reading and gathering facts/info. I do know it was an anonymous complaint.

Added at 3:30 pm 3/8- seems the FL right to farm act will be of great help to us. It covers this plus many other things.

Going to go all official this year and get permitted to sell eggs too (I think) will see if I want that head ache.

Here is what I was going to make my office, but now it is our new dog house! Complete with porch, a/c and running water. We will also house the animal meds here and are able o triage sick/injured as well as brood new arrivals.

they'reHISchickens :

Is there any chance that the complaining neighbors might be baiting your dogs into barking-- even by allowing their dog to run free?

Same thought here!

I have the feeling my neighbors do it too... but I think my neighbors just want to piss off the third neighbor (getting confused yet?) I don't let my boxers out until dark... and put them up when I go to bed... then out again first thing in the morning until midday. It's been the routine for 4 years now and I have heard from one neighbor that the other complains about it. So this new neighbor comes in... is annoyed at the mildly complaining one... and uses my dogs (in theory) to piss off the complaining ones while my dogs are the "bad guy".

Anywho... that was a long way of saying... could that be a issue?

Neighbor to my south is questionable in what they are up to. Up all hours of the night, know when no one is at home and makes comments on it.

Neighbor two houses to the north let's their collie run free, she actually use to come for yard visits, but that stopped 9-11 months ago now. I was out tonight putting locks on all the gates and the coop runs with my GP's following me around. I noticed the collie was jogging down the road, and then was near but not on our property.

Thanks to everyone here on BYC I am armed with lots of knew info. Including Right to Farm, and everything it covers. I have saved and printed most of it so I can be ready to educate those who com pain or the sherriff/animal control. We have 2 FWC officers in our area who are very helpful as well, so I thought I would talk with one of them about it as well. Besides they are over some of the permits here in state for things like quail.

I am sorry you have to deal with such pettiness. We have five (narrow) acres in what I thought was a "rural" area. The neighbors on one side have roosters, and they are one of the few families on our road that have any farm type animals. The neighbors on our other side have dogs. Both let their animals roam freely wherever they want (our property included), but complain about the other's animals roaming and making noise.

Aggravating!! The dog guy has 8 or more acres, but sounds a lot like your neighbors-he just wants a big house with a big yard. Personally, I don't care about the noise, but I sure do wish everyone would have the courtesy to keep their own animals on their own property like you. I just can't understand living on acreage and not expecting some animal noise. Heck, that's one of the reasons I want to live here. I like hearing animals instead of traffic!!

I hope that you are able to work it out so that you can use your dogs for their intended purposes and educate others at the same time!

Thank you WholeHearted, I am printing info sheets on my GP's explaining their job on our property. I am also printing the FL rightbto farm info and going to hand it out on our road in person. Hoping it helps the neighbors understand.

Then we are adding another pasture, quail, and rabbits along with ducks! LoL and maybe a peafowl too.

You could have been writing this for me.... I have alpacas in my back pasture which is below my house and behind a barn. It is right next to my neighbors house though. I got the GP/AS guard dog that had been raised with my alpacas. She barked alot as she was learning what was danger and what not danger. I spend 6 nights out in the pasture in a tent in the FREEZING cold to try and train her. And they just wouldn't have it. I wound up having to give her back and now my boys are unprotected. She did NOT bark all night long.. only at critters passing through and she was learning and doing better every night. Makes me want to cry all over again. She was the best dog....

Jeaucamom, I won't give up, especially now that BYCers have given me so much useful information. So sorry you had to give her back. Look into Right to Farm act for your state. Neighbors can not impose on a farm in such a way as to impede the farms production. (according to my local reading)
