Great Pyrenees, Property listed as Ag, and "city" neighbors

I'd start reporting their dog for running...

I can't stand it... people move out into the country and start ruining it. I got a new neighbor who does the same... I have to run their dogs off all the time... they say "We are getting a underground fence" and I have yet to see it. I told them that the dogs will get bored and attack a chicken or duck one day and I'll have no choice but to shoot it. Trust me... I don't want to shoot a dog. I also don't want to lose all the birds (and money in them).

Start calling on their dog running free. country or not... dogs are supposed to be contained or controlled.

And who gets mad at dogs barking??!?!?! THat is exactly what they should be doing.

You have the right to enjoy your property. If they deprive you of that enjoyment, then you might have recourse.

The jag is a warning sign though. Either they can buy whatever justice they want or they are drug dealers.

Older couple, she is a realtor, they want beachside ocean front property rules here. Granted we live VERY close, but still.

OK, then they are either fools or they are going to pay off the government. Your way of life is under attack and if they are not rebuffed soon there is a strong chance they will succeed.

Can you put a hog pen near their house?

As an example, a neighbor to a farmer sold his property to a developer, the farmer was farming his land, people bought and built houses because of the open land that bordered the property, the farmer wanted to also sell to the developer, home owners sued they won, farmer couldn't sell, so farmer got even, put up hog pens along the fence line, people sued again, judge told them you can't have it both ways, farmer won.

We're having a similar issue here with our Anatolian Shepherd.

You can read our story here:

I have joined the Washington Farm Bureau and am petitioning them to add Livestock Guardian Dogs as Livestock. This has already been done in Oregon State. Then if there is an issue, you've got the "big guns" fighting for you, as well as a good "personal property" attorney.

I would start with the pictures. Then have a meeting with your neighbor, with a viable witness present. Explain that they need to put up fences, to keep their animals in. It is not your responsibility to keep their animals out. Copy as many resources as you can off the internet.

Here is one:

Here is another from the USDA:

Take the time to educate your Animal Control, and the "nice" sheriff that came to visit.

Gather the laws and codes of your county and state. You'd be surprised at how far you will have to dig to find the answers.

And, please, be prepared to fight for your property rights. These animals are personal property, just the same as any livestock, or dog. Animals control does not have the right to remove them just because your neighbors complain. Animal Control/and Law enforcement SOMETIMES do not know the laws any better than you, and they are counting on that. SOMETIMES they use the laws incorrectly, to their own advantage. It is your property, it is your responsibility to understand the laws and to protect it from those who would take advantage of you or your animals.

What to do When Animal Control Comes Calling - pretty good article (not a one size fits all, though):

Hope this helps.
