Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

I was just thinking of planting a garden at home of things the school could use. It's very hard these days to do good works since the government gets involved.

It's warmer here today and I've uncovered an unused bed.  Sis Mary gave me a bag of potatoes that have started to sprout.  Should I put them in and cover them with a couple of bags of top soil?

Queen -  Sent you my address.  I've started another raised be area away from the other two gardens.  I didn't do corn last year due to not having an area that it wouldn't sheild other plants from the light. 

I'm considering starting a school garden for the school  Sis. Mary made Tuscan Potato soup and the kids loved it.  Only she didnt' have any Kale, so she used spinach.  Plus I have elderly friends that like Collards and Swiss Chard.

Does anyone know if this new colored variety is as good as the green in Swill Chard?    I've got to make time to get some more horse manure.

michaelf  -  are you a guy?  Just asking since most everyone on this thing is female and it would be nice to see more guys.  My DD 's name is Mikhael and we pronounce it michael, that's why I'm asking.

Anyhow I read an article years ago about someone who was rescueing old varieties of roses from falling down farm houses.  Your question made me think of it again.  I once has the cops stop and ask me what I was doing digging up hosta from in front of an abandoned house.     They were nice enough and told me to be careful as the house was in the city and not a nice neighborhood.   

Do you know what kind of roses they are?   I have some from our old house that I grew from cuttings.  My neighbor said her husband planted them 40 years ago then so now they'd be 50 years ago.

Yes I am a guy . No I do not know what type of rose it is. But he did say it has been there for 20 plus years

I try to teach my boys my hobbies. They see my passion in doing everything. Yes I never sit down long.I am always doing something. Hmm maybe a touch of OCD, lol. My oldest son, who is 14, bought some seeds to plant. Both my boys are ready for a garden. My wife also! Ready for some home grown veggies. Also it is a bunch of free goodies for our chickens.

None of my kids inherited my green thumb. I don't know what made me interested in gardening. I started with tomatoes when I was a kid. Never really tried anything else and my mother never spoke to me about it. My dad was absent.

Years later when he did come back I learned he liked to garden and had an alotment in his area.

My 4 year old likes to pick seeds and such for us to grow. He wont eat any of it though, he eats zero fruit and veggies. I can get him to drink some juice and he will eat pizza/ketchup/salsa.

I grew up with my mom growing our own fruits and veggies. She still does, at 64.

My grandchildren in Millbrook, eat all kinds of vegetables. I don't know why but they love them. Meat not so much. Won't eat pizza with sauce though. Just cheese. I wanted to help them start a garden but I know their parents wouldn't take care of it if I did.

Which is why I didn't help them get chickens either. But they are slated to move to Canada so it's moot.

My sister and her husband have told my little niece that they can get chickens this summer but that is going to be a huge mistake.
I just know that there is no way I am going to take the chickens after a month or so when they have realized their mistake.

I just don't get into it with them. I just change the subject and let it die. They have two cats and Lord have mercy, that litter box stinks. Which is why I don't get a cat even though with meds I could have one and do like them.

I am just can't seem to get into cleaning a litter box and cat food is just to darned expensive. I can buy 50#'s of chicken feed and get some eggs for all my hard work.

We have had 6.5 inches of rain as of yesterday morning. I know there is atleast a coiple of more to add to it. And they are saying more rain on way. We need it bad...but we also need it to soak into the ground.everything is saturated. Atleast its filling up some empty ponds and ones almost dry.not complaining just saying.

I prayed for a dry summer last year and we got it. I also got a huge water bill from watering the garden all summer.

The thing is we live near a creek and it was down, but we also have a sceptic system and it is a pain when the leach field gets wet. To much building around the area raises the water table. I wish we had a sewer line but I doubt it will happen soon.
