Gross! Cracked egg to eat and there was a chick!

If you've never had problems with this lady's eggs before, then please give her the benefit of the doubt.

Eggs will not make a baby if they're simply left in the yard.

It is possible that someone, maybe a grandchild, was 'helping' her and picked an egg out of somewhere they shouldn't have. She is not going to risk selling bad eggs to folks because word travels faster than lightening.

I'm not upset with her, everyone makes mistakes. I just don't personally know her or her operation and it makes you start to have doubts, you know?

That happened to my mom. One of my aunts offered to make her some eggs, and cracked open an egg with a half-formed dead chick in it INTO A HOT FRYING PAN. They were both startled and disgusted.

Yuck!

Today 2:43 pm Yikes...but those types of egg/baby chicks are a delicacy in some countries (I watch too much tv!)

yes, my mom is from vietnam and she would make those eggs and eat them... with my sisters...

yuk..
it is an awful smell i can still recall it.

i think i would have to swear off of eggs for a long time if i found a chick in it.. i have a weak stomach for stuff like that.

It's possible, too, that a hen "stole" an egg from another nest. I have an imfamous egg stealer! I have seen her rolling an egg all the way across the coop!

I haven't let any of my hens brood eggs, so any "stolen" eggs are gathered promptly, too. However, I can just see how it could happen.

I would much rather buy from a farm lady than get eggs laid by battery hens from a grocery store. I know for SURE what conditions those come from.

true enough windy ridge...

i get eggs from my next door neighbor right now since my chickens are not old enough yet, and i wont go back to store bought either...

nothing like farm fresh.

That is sooooo gross..poor child, I hope she isn't traumatized and won't eat eggs now. Stupid seller, she scarfed that egg up from someplace she hadn't even looked in 20 days!!!

And that , my friends is exactly why I do not and will not have roosters. That is my husbands biggest fear and he has instilled the "if it crows , it has to go " rule in to my brain. I am so sorry your daughter for having to see that. The egg lady needs to be more careful about collecting her eggs in a timely fashion or segragating the ones she wants to hatch I think.
