Speaking of indescriminant breeding....
Our white GSD is the result of an on-purpose 'accidental' breeding by my POS stepbrother.. They happened into a female white GSD somehow and, wouldn't ya know, they later "found" a male white GSD.. Just walking the road.
Yeah right.
There's not a doubt in my mind that the male was hotter than the hinges on hell's gate. That's just the kind of people they are, to steal somebody's dog..
So anyway, oops!...they bred. Wasn't intentional of course... :rolleyes
The male ended up getting shot after my POS stepbrother was warned several times that he was killing a neighbor's animals.. Oh well...he'd done his job, right? So then, just before the female has her pups, they give her to my mom to watch "for a while" for some reason.. Read that: they gave her to my mom to deal with caring for the imminent delivery and subsequent PITA of raising pups.
So the dog has the pups -- a whole gob of them -- and my mom almost immediately hurts her knee. Next thing ya know, my wife and I have a litter of white GSD pups to find homes for.. We did the shots.. We did the worming.. We put out the ad.. We screened the potential adoptees.. And, yeah, we asked for payment because hey...worming, vax, vets, and shots are expensive, not to mention the fact that we believe all animals to have value and shouldn't simply be given away. People are much more likely to care for something if they paid for it.. In the end, we broke even...barely...not counting time, energy, etc.
The plan had originally been to find them ALL homes, but then we discovered that one had some...issues. Turns out, she has megaesophagus. Naturally, we kept her instead of putting her down or shuffling her off to some unsuspecting buyer.
In the end, we're glad we did.. Like I said about her earlier...sweetest dog ever. Super smart, too.. A joy to have around, aside from having to grind dry food and mix with water to make gruel...3x/day inclined feedings...burping her like a baby...etc. It's a pain, but she really is worth it.
Oh, and would you believe that my POS stepbrother actually called my mom up one day and asked for my number, because he felt like he was entitled to half of what we collected for the litter? She told him to take a hike..
I haven't seen him in a number of years, but I'll run across him sooner or later.. When I do, I think I might have to punch him right in the face.
