Well, if you're not in the car, he might break into it to see if there is gun to steal. Put the decal on your t-shirt and let the bad guys think you're armed.

I wasn't talking about the advancement of arms technology. I was talking about government. You don't know what sort of lunatic, socialist, fascist, nazi, whatever type government might get voted in. It might not happen today, but what about 20, 50 or 100 years from now?

Well, not much you can do about that if you're not there, now, is there? That will be up to your grandkids or great grandkids. And since the Constitution was meant to me a malleable document, they can change it to fit their belief system and any form of government they want. That is what makes it so powerful. If your great great grandkids decide to agree with me that the 2nd amendment has long outlived its purposes, they can just dump it.

And by the way, socialism is an economic system, not a government system. As long as we have democracy in this country, it doesn't really matter what the economic system is. Not to get sidetracked or anything. Just thought I'd point that out since the S word has come up several times in this conversation.

In any case, point is there is no need for folks to panic. Nothing is going to happen to their right to own a gun in our lifetimes, or even our children's.

Man what Fantasy world do live in? There are many cities and some states that have restricted or made it nearly impossible to own a gun or extremely limit the use. And there are a few congress men that have introduced bills to limit out right ban the use of some guns.

Limit is not the same thing as ban, the ban of some is not the same thing as the ban of all. There is nothing wrong with reasonable restrictions on 2nd amendment rights just as there is nothing wrong with reasonable restrictions of 1st amendment rights.

But I would be very interested in knowing anywhere that owning a gun is "nearly impossible".

The constitution is a very powerful document and it is, of course, not perfect. They knew confusing situations would arise and they knew men would seek power by twisting words.

That is why the first 2 things on their list were to give the people the right to speak loudly and carry a big stick. Its also why they made it changeable but very difficult to do so.

Funny but I just couldn't leave it up.
A restriction limits a ban forbids we are not talking restrictions when we take away ownership. Cocaine is not restricted in it's use in Coca Cola it is banned. CCW permits have restrictions on their use, but they are not a ban. Denying handgun ownership IS a ban, NOT a restriction, and most defiantly not reasonable.

Check in Califorina!

I would like to know why Americans are afraid to protect themselves. What happened to the pioneer spirit that enabled us to settle this land. I am constantly hearing protect us,do this for us, dont do this for us. The government is now at an alarming level of intrusiveness in our daily lives as we scream for more services and give them the in road to all of our rights. Too many people are afraid to stand up for themselves. This is the basis for the anti gun hysteria that permeates through this country. You can get killed standing up for yourself,
But you will deffinetly die waiting for someone to get there to stand up for you.
