Guy hammer vs girl hammer

Find a hammer that fits your hand and feels comfortable. Choke up on the hammer handle while starting the nail. Once the nail is well started then slide your hand to the end of the hammer or wherever feels comfortable to you.

Swing the hammer while keeping your eye directly on the nail head. If you are looking at anything other than the nail head, that is where you will hit. Don't get concerned if it takes you ten swings to drive the nail in.

Use your wrist and forearm to swing the hammer. Do not use a "push type swing". Do not try to hit as hard as you can. Let the weight of the hammer do the work, not your muscles.
This. Also try to find a hammer that dampens vibration if you’re using it much. Makes a big difference to your wrists after a while. Less fatigue and pain = more precise swings.

DIY women may hate on this post, but why do guys hammer so well? I do my own projects because I don't have the patience to wait for a DH to do any job, but if they do, the can hit the hammer on the nail, 2x and be done. If I do it takes forever and I end up with a crooked nail , or one that bounces back and hits me in the eye. Grr.

Unless you count the subconscious bias that makes parents give building projects to their sons and dollies to their girls, it has nothing to do with gender. It's all about practice!

Speak for yourself (said lightheartedly.) I earn a living with my hammer.

Jokes aside, it’s practice and upper body strength especially in stabilising muscles.
Same here. The 'dilemma' isn't a guy does better than girl thing.
It is an in individual thing.

I happen to know a lot of capable gals; My work is the "do or be trampled" kind; if a woman can't hold her place, it is not hers for long.
So, she does; those persons are regarded well.

If OP is having an issue with hammering, remember practice makes perfect. To F.A.I.L is your First Attempt In Learning. Try again.

Wood or fiberglass handles are preferable. Steel handles last forever but really add to the vibration you feel.

Yeah, though certain rubber covered steel handles are in between; they’re better than uncovered steel handles, but regardless of packaging claims, almost everyone I know that has been swinging a hammer for more than a few hundred hours has a wooden handle. I like the hand feel of the plain steel, for balance, but they make my hands swell up after a while.

The downside to wooden handles is lack of durability. Especially if you have anger issues. :p
