Guy hammer vs girl hammer

i also can't use a hammer, unfortunately. I'd rather chance it with a screwdriver with a battery that's always going out...

The nail hits you in the eye?!? I'll admit, I've become fairly handy with the drill, miter saw, driver and even the jigsaw, but hammering is not my strength. But it isn't my husband's either. I think a lot of guys grow up doing that work and are just more practiced at it. My younger son, for instance, but he's a carpenter. On the other hand, his girlfriend makes and refinishes furniture and she is very handy. I don't think there is anything specific to women about ability to use tools other than experience.

I always said that in my neck of the woods, you are an outsider unless your mammaw and pappaw grew up here. I've only lived here 36 years, so definite newcomer!
This is off topic so forgive me, but when I moved here people would ask me who my "people" were. I was befuddled. My "people" are in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Texas. Folks here wouldn't know them, why did they keep asking me that?

First time I used a radial arm saw.........
I didn't hold the wood right, and it kicked back into the actual sawblade. the wood jammed the machine, tripped a circuit breaker, and made the most horrendous snapping screeching sound you could imagine. the woodworking teacher just gave me this look, as if wondering what I did this time, and whether he would need to do paperwork. supposedly, I am the first student in my school's history to trip a breaker on that saw.

Find a hammer that fits your hand and feels comfortable. Choke up on the hammer handle while starting the nail. Once the nail is well started then slide your hand to the end of the hammer or wherever feels comfortable to you.

Swing the hammer while keeping your eye directly on the nail head. If you are looking at anything other than the nail head, that is where you will hit. Don't get concerned if it takes you ten swings to drive the nail in.

Use your wrist and forearm to swing the hammer. Do not use a "push type swing". Do not try to hit as hard as you can. Let the weight of the hammer do the work, not your muscles.
