half of flock has Sour Crop

I haven’t looked into the science of why acidified copper sulfate works, but apparently it kills everything (which is a good reason not to make it too strong). A flock can benefit from probiotics after treatment has ended. Now that you’ve asked, I’m curious myself!

i couldnt find any reason why it works but it seems to cure/help BIG issuse in crops. i will look into get some but i hopeing wont ever have to use it
 
Sorry about all the crop troubles!

You mentioned you had a lot of rain lately? Rain brings out many unwanted pests...bacteria's, viruses, worms, coccidia, ect... And any of these can upset the flora in the entire gut causing slow, sour or even impacted crops.

I totally agree with @micstrachan they need Acidified Copper Sulfate. Use the Acidified only and that labeled for poultry only. Copper sulfate is used in animal feeds as a source of copper, it is no doubt in your daily vitamin as well! However in higher quantities it acts as an anti fungal and anti bacterial. It even kills off a few species of round worms and Coccidia as well as the protozoa responsible for Canker. It will clean them out from beak to vent of all E.coli and all forms of yeasts responsible for sour crop.

It is mixed 1/4 teaspoon Copper per gallon of water. Make a new batch daily. Use it for 7 full days, the only source of water. No puddle drinking! :)

After the 7th day, start them on Probiotics to replace all the good bacteria and digestive yeasts that were destroyed by the Copper, 3 or 4 days of Probiotics should get the gut started. I would then get them wormed using Safeguard Liquid Goat wormer, you can get this at Tractor Supply. Pick up some Corid while you are there too for the future Coccidiosis outbreaks. (At least this is what I would do. :) )

This should fix up the sour crops, do keep updated! :)
