HALLOWEEN HATCH!!! Anyone

I am still pacing in front of the incubator. One is resting in his shell while he gets the strength to climb out and the other is waiting to pop his top.

I think they are Ghost, Pumpkin, and Vamp, based on what I drew on their eggs.

(The three official Halloween babies, I mean.)

Evonne, did you see in your thread? I'm getting silkies and seramas to put in with the duck eggs.

I didn't get a single Rouen, though I really wanted them. I did get my Khaki Campbells. I may have to find a good breeder/hatchery for ducklings.

Kathy, I checked my eggs. There are 5. I think all Orpington X, but I've seen so many eggs these last few weeks that I instantly forgot if there were any OEGB or not the moment I left the kitchen.

The hatching dates are November 3 and 4 so I locked them down immediately. Knowing how my luck has gone, they will be pipped by evening.

I counted the chicks in the brooder. There are 18 babies including the ones that hatched prior to Halloween and the two I gave away. I lost count of the number I set, total and I have no idea how many made it to the hatching incubator anymore. I lost at least 10 (including two chicks which hatched and were not strong enough to make it--you'll be happy to know Lefty and Murphy are still among the living), but I also had temperature drops, plummeting humidity, and one power outage. When these two hatch, it will be around 2/3 and enough for me to consider it a success.

Once the early November hatches are done, I'm going to clean my Little Giant out. I'm not sure if I will try to hatch in it for Thanksgiving or not. I've yet to make up my mind about whether I want to hatch chicks and ducks together or not.

I am going to post pics within and hour of my 3 babies i swear

I got a little banty beak so far I have been misting the egg it seems to dry and my good friend distinctly heard another banty egg chirp so I do have to

bantys possibly yay!!! SO five chicks for Halloween. For names I was thinking Mischief for my assisted chic for sure the other 4 hmmmmmmm.

I was wondering...am I the only one who is going to have some trouble telling her chicks apart??? The bantams are distinctive, but the Orpington X chicks are either yellow or buff, but otherwise they are much the same. Except for Murphy. Right now, he's as big as his week old siblings who are already feathering.

I'm with ya. I bought some chick leg bands that I am applying to the ones I really need to know. The others, I have all mixed up! They are all gonna be in a brooder together. So, I guess I will figure it out when they are older. LOL
