Mayapooh, that pic of the 2 chicks in someone's hand is fabulous! It could win contests! Anyone know how to enter it for picture of the week for BYC? Either that one or Evonne's picture with the pumpkin. Eggcellent!

What kind of chick has the chipmunk racing stripe? Those are so cute!

Dr. Maya,
I think you have a wonderful idea here! Hey, you know BYC is making a calendar? Yup, they are. Wouldn't that pumpkin one be so cool for October? Hey we should suggest to Nifty, to have a contest for the next calendar! A contest for each month of the year? I think that would be so fun!

Well, I wound up with 20 out of 21 cute little fluffy butts hatching out. Very happy with my first hatch in a diy incubator. My wife and I each held chicks while we watched Marley and Me

With all the power outages and whatever else my hatch is not going terribly well in terms of the numbers. I have in 14 eggs, 4 have hatched.
Here is a pick of the first 3. All 4 are all Ameraucanas. I hear one more peeping still inside the egg but have no idea which egg it is. No pip yet and dont' know if it's going to make it to pipping. Taking so long. Humidity up and fingers crossed.

Might there be pictures on the way?

And, can you please share your incubator secrets? Like what kind of thermostat you used, etc? Please

They are farm yard mixes. All I know for sure is I got some eggs laid by marans hens, some from ameracuana hens and some completely unknown. The lady I got them from had quit setting eggs for the year so all of her chickens were just runnin' loose. No idea what roos contributed to the hatch

I started with a water heater thermostat but didn't like the 10 degree swings in air temp I was getting. So, built a second bator with a wafer thermostat that I found at southern ag. Much more stable. That coupled with several nights getting up 2 or 3 times to check the temp. Plus these were not shipped eggs.

Congrats all on the Halloween Hatch! I am so glad I found this forum I learned so much
