Hi! I could REALLY use some support! I have a First time broody girl---my Buff Orpington-- she set on 10/09/09 so that puts us at 10/30/09--

Please forgive me for asking so many questions for I'm a first-timer as well--

Is it normal for her to leave the nest for a few hours? I live in Florida so it's still around 88-90 this week so she's been leaving ONLY once but sometimes it's for 2-3 hours...

Starting Thursday the weather will drop to high 50's in the morning with a high of 75 should I put a heat lamp in the coop?

Also, I put the girls eggs under her that they laid this week so she wouldn't be worn out from laying until she feels she's done, is that ok? She is setting on 6 total, I didn't want to overwhelm her.

Lastly, ANY advice I'm soooo willing to listen!

Thanks! God Bless!

ONE MORE ( of many I'm sure ) question--- When and what is the best way to candle them to see if they are coming along ok?

--THANKS!!

Mine got off her eggs to run around not sure how long she only left them a few times but I saw her standing up alot I guess cooling them it has been very hot here in FL... Don't worry to much..I would suggest to candle around 10 days or later..You don't want to scare her off...
As for the heat lamp I think that sounds pretty good we are in for a little cold front...

Thank you both!

I try not to bother her, she is free range so when she does leave the coop she is still so fluffy if she sees you...it's a funny thing to see....she chirps like a sea gull and ruffles her feathers the moment you walk outside!

Thanks for the candling tip, never thought of a can---I'll have to do that! Should I candle all of them or just a few?

You can do all of them if you want.. On my can I used duct tape across the top cut a hole a little bigger then a quarter and put my fashlight in the bottom..Worked great..
