i snuck a few onto the candling box tonight anyway... shame on me....
i can actually see a little bit of veining starting on some of the ones i looked at... but it's also hard to tell if that's a ring around the veining.... but i'll be darn if it didn't look like a little red spider.... i can't remember where i read that it looked like that, but i was like huh??? then i noticed.. oh wow.. it really does look like a little spider....

if they do end up having the blood ring, is that more than likley just a fluky egg, or is ist something bad with the bator?
i'm not making any decisions about them until i can be sure it is a ring.....

I have decided I'm not going to candle until day 10. (Yea, if I can stand to wait that long!)

I bought one of those electric candling lights, and I love it. I was able to even see though my Cuckoo Marans eggs. Well, they aren't THAT dark though. But I really like the light. I didn't even have to lift up the eggs. I just put it on top of the egg, inside the bator, and was able to see veining and the like. Yea, I like it. Here is a link to a picture of it.

Now I am considering looking for a more accurate temp/hygrometer to use. I don't really know which one to get. I have seen a couple, online, that may be candidates. But first I am going to check at the farm supply store here in town tomorrow.

i've been wanting a candeler like that for a while.. right now i have a nightlight lamp w/ 100 watt bulb inside a box... lol....
it works for these eggs... not sure what will happen with the EE's don't know how dark their eggs will be.. lol....

Just so you know--- The eggs are presumes from farmyard and black rock- im not completely sure. The Light Sussex I know is from a Light Sussex. The babies will be cross bred though.

Don't kick it out with a blood ring this early. Last time I candled on day 4 I had what I thought was a blood ring. By day 10, I had a chick. It's easy to make a mistake this early.

oh yeah... def not kicking them out of the bator yet... esp since i'm not a candeling and hatcihng expert... but at day 10 if i still seeit i'll assume it is what it looks like...

totally off topic.. hubby just lit a fir in the fire place and my house smells so yummy right now.. lol.. it actually was a little chilly here this afternoon.. poor chickies.... i need to build them real coops.. lol..
