Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

I candled tonight. I had a few eggs that were clear, so I took them out. One that looked like it has a blood ring, but I am pretty sure I saw a chick swimming in it, so I left it in the 'bator

OK so here is what I have....12 eggs...shipped...

5-can only tell there is a yolk...too hard to see.
4 SWIMMING CHICKIES!!!!
1-maybe chickie?? hard to tell...
2 I think are blood rings or beginnings of...no chick movement..

All in all...if I get more than 1 I will be so happy!

Off to bed! Good Night all!

I tried to candle...My flashlight is just not bright enuff to see... I was getting so frustrated. My DH said he'd make me a candler this weekend, so I'll try again, probably on Sunday. That'll be day 10 for me anyway.

Ok, I couldn't resist...I had to try and candle my Black Copper Marans again! I saw 6 swimmers

but the other 6 looked like nothing was going on.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to be happy that at least some of them are developing...now if those would all make it out alive I would be eggstatic!!

I think my broody has too many eggs. Whenever I go to check on her (who I still have NOT seen off the nest!) she has 2 or 3 eggs kicked out. I think one of my other hens is laying eggs with her

Anyway, when I go back with my gloves to put the eggs back under her (or sneak a peak at any possible wigglers!

) she has them tucked back under.

I just hope that it is the same eggs that keep getting kicked out, otherwise it might make all the eggs die!!

I researched the best way to candle , as I was unhappy with what I saw. This one site said to look at the egg from above not directly AT it so I candled last night.

WOO HOO!!! I saw 2 swimming chickies! We are thrilled.
but now I have tons of questions that I was afraid to ask before....

My hen is so skinny.. she has been sitting for 2 months now and has lost so much weight. I am afraid her temp is low. I feed her when I can and have water for her too.. and she does get up to poop a monster poop. I am wondering if I should bring her in the house.
The temps are staying in the 50s and 60s.

I am also concerned about it being such a late hatch if I should just leave them (her too) in the coop once they hatch. I cannot take them from her. She has wanted this for too long.

Will the other chickens try to kill the new babies?
Should I worry about my RIR rooster that is abused by Rusty the roo? HE stays in the coop all day afraid of Rusty... (unless I am home and let him out to free range)

I candled this AM...I had to add water and 4 new eggs soooo

14 BO's

10 w/ definite veining ( one had a swimming baby we could see! Though it looked like the air pocket was on the side????? ) 4 looked clear, one of them was dropped on the light and cracked

the other three I marked with a question mark and put back in. Though these are lighter brown eggs, I still had a hard time seeing in some of them....I think I'll try it again on day 10..... at night! Hopefully by then, my other eggs will have made it here.

(I still haven't heard from the seller on those. They were 25
+ purebreed eggs.Eggs were 3-4 different colors of silkies BBSO's, BO's,Blue Cochins...and colored eggs, which could be welsummer, penedesenca, aracauna mixes. I'll keep you guys posted!)

The seller just wrote to me...she hadn't sent the eggs out yet and will be shipping them on Mon or Tues to the correct address...That means I'll have 3 staggered hatches instead of just 2! I have my original Halloween babies, 2 BR and 2 Polish that I set this AM due on Nov. 7 and then I'll have one more the following week!

Do these different hatches all have to have seperate brooders?

My four silkie eggs due to hatch on Halloween,
I candled last night, I saw one eye, one had viens, two looked clear, but I kept them anyways, I am so new at candling, I can still hope..... I will candle again in a few days.
