Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

Okay, figured out part of the problem...i was reading in another thread about temp in carton being higher with a still air. I took them out of the carton and that high temp came down. I'm not opening it again... I promise!!! i hooked up the hose through the vent thing that Jamie recommended, so I won't even need to open it for water. Hopefully I didn't cook these babies though......It's going to be a looooong night!

Kim, I'll be right here with you!

Nope we will not tell a soul. We all are going to be just fine haha. As many times as i have done this I still cant quit getting up and checking bator. Tweek this Tweek that. The excited is worth all the stress when you see little fuzzy butts running around. And to think they almost die twice just to hatch. I keep looking for pips but none yet and there shouldnt be that is the funny part

I think they play football with them, but that's just me!

The humidity should be at least 60%, but more like 65 or 70% is better. I think 80% is too high, but I could be wrong. Mine never gets over about 50%, maybe 55%, so I don't know for sure.

My Halloween eggs just went in the hatcher this evening...temps are holding steady at 100 and humidity is 66%. I am using an LG still air for a hatcher. My last batch that was due to hatch yesterday, only 4 out of 11 hatched, but it was my own fault. I tried using the carton method, and my humidity was too high. It was like 74% and the carton soaked up a bunch of the water. All but 5 chicks absorbed water and drowned from my humidity being too high.

Out of the five that pipped, four hatched and the fifth one pipped the aircell, but never broke the shell and I am assuming suffocated inside. Beautiful little yellow chickie, too.

So learn and move on, right?

So this time, no carton, laying on the side, and humidity is only 66%.

I have 7 Mille Eggs, 1 Lt Brahma, and 11 Silkie eggs in the 'bator. Two of the silkie eggs looked iffy, but the Lt Brahma was wiggling all over!

I think 66% is too high for the first 18 days. I think 40-50% is recommended, or around that.

Did you open the other eggs that didn't hatch? I usually leave them in for 3-4 extra days, in case they are just running late. Unless I can tell they are already dead.

So, what is in your bator now??? I have serama's, SLW, BLRW and Wellies.

I am on the last 3 days now, that is why my humidity is 66%.
The first 18 days my humidity was 35-45%

In my HATCHER I have 1 Lt Brahma, 11 Silkies, and 7 Milles...they are starting on day 19 now.

In my incubator, I have 1 Silver Pheonix, 4 bantam blue cochins, and 2 marans. They aren't due to hatch until November 2nd-4th.

ROTFL! That's ok, I have misread things by skimming quickly, too.

Thanks! I am really excited about this hatch. These eggs are all from Mrs. AK Bird Brain (Tori) and I am hoping to be adding them to my breeding pens.
