Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

yeah! 10 more days. I candled last night and then I could not see one of the babies any more... I am so scared that I killed it!

I am going to candle them quickly again next Monday. Mine are due to hatch next Thursday. I am also going to move Momma and the eggs before they hatch.

Shouldn't I be throwing out some of those water filled eggs before they blow? I know there is nothing in there & don't think it is even worth waiting til day 14.

Now when I dispose of the other eggs, like with the blood ring, where do I open those eggs? Won't they be gross & full of disease etc? So I probably should do it outside? I know dumb questions!

I always open mine outside just in case. It's day 12 here and I think I am going to go candle for the second time. If I wait until Day 14 I can never see anything b/c they get so darn big! Be back soon with an update...

yes you need to discard the water filled ones. There should be no mistake now that they are not growing. Sometimes if you wait to long you will be sorry. If the egg explodes it will cost you other eggs. I still have 19 of 23 eggs growing up a storm. I hope we all have good hatches. Cant wait for our night. Then I have a nov 7 hatch coming. Have 21 Wheaton marans and 4 BC marans due. Keeping my fingers crossed for us all.

Ok, candling results are in...

Looks like I might be down to 5 Black Copper Marans. Only 6/12 developed and now one of them looks like it has a blood ring. Also, 3 of the 5 good ones have huge air cells! Any ideas on that? Humidity has been 30-40% and none of my other 26 eggs look that way. As for the other 26, 1 looks like it might have a blood ring, but the other 25 are looking great! Here's hoping for lots of chickies...
