Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

Came home and found no pips, but it's barely day 20, so maybe there'll at least be peeping when I get up in the morning.

Congrats to everyone and their babies!

ok, that is the tiniest chick I have ever seen. How big is it really.. If you chicks are small like mine.. that thing is the size of a nickle... or maybe a dime!! holy smokes it is adorable!

I have 8 fuzzy butts. I candled the last egg this morning when I took the last 2 chicks out and it was dead.

It was the one with the sideways airsac and the yolk was not absorbed at all. We'll be burying him in the backyard this afternoon.

I hope all that are still waiting have wonderful hatches!
Buckle up and enjoy the ride....it's a wild one, but one of the most rewarding and awe inspiring.

I have a BR and a polish that are due this next week, then 27 silkies/cochin/ee's the following week....and then 12 BBSO's the following week!

I now have eight fuzzy butts! And several more pips. I got AT LEAST one of my frizzle Ameraucanas. Two hatched after I left this morning and I think one of them might be a frizzle (according to my daughter's description of its color) but won't be sure til I get home tonight.

We did have one that my husband ultimately helped out and it had some blood on it's belly and the others kept pecking at it. I was pretty sure it was going to die but I didn't want it to die from being pecked to death so I put a clear plastic bowl over it (it could get air from the bottom) so that the others would leave it alone. It's still breathing this morning, but barely.

I ended up with 8, too. Must be the magic number.

I had 5 that didn't pip. I briefly candled them last night and they also had those weird air sacs. I wonder if that was the reason they never pipped. I am going to open them today just to see what went on.

Congrats on the babies!!! (My penedesencas...what's left of them...should hatch on the 4th!)

I seem to be running into problems lately. SOme of the chicks that are trying to hatch have unabsorbed yolks. I'm guessing this is from my temperature spike earlier.

The air sac/membrane is drying around the chicks and they can't peck out. Should I add more water? I've never had this problem before.

Good news is that we have 4 chicks and 5-6 still pipping!
