Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

Quote:
I took all mine out of the bator a few hatches ago to clean it. I put them in a closed box with a 40 watt light bulb on them. I had 9 eggs total, and 9 chicks that hatched. Just be sure to put the themometer in with them, so you don't cook them, and clean the bator very quickly!! I used a hair dryer to evaporate the water and bleach smell out of mine.

I agree, except for the toes thing. I have had a few chicks hatch like that, and they straightened out on their own. I had one that did get a boot though, because its toes were so severe. You can wait up to 3 or 4 days before having to boot them. It is usually either a humidity problem or a nutrition problem in the breeders.

Gut feeling was right - they were both dead. When I opened the bator is smells like burnt rubber in there (it is made from a cooler) I wonder if the air was toxic to them?

On top of it all I went to get my daughter from a Holloween party and ran over our 8 month old kitten and killed it.

I should just not have animals...

That's so sad! I hope your night gets better.

I'm sure it was an accident. Don't beat yourself up over it. Live and learn. Everyone on here speaks from experience, so that is how we learn.

Sorry about your kitty and chickies.

Sorry to hear about your animals, that's so rough!

I came home to a second pip, and now have two adorable little EE chickies! I have a pip in a third egg and hope to wake to much more.

Halloween hatch day....................My one silkie egg hatched yesterday afternoon right on Halloween!!!!!!!
I had 4 eggs to start with, but the one made it and she is a beauty! a soft black and white coloring. we named her Holly for Halloween
I will take a better picture later.
My daughter made this bed for the chick, we used it only for the photo, then back to the bator to stay warm.

We are up to seven babies! and I have 3 more pips, and I have 3 or 4 more rocking!

Anyone else still waiting? Shelleyd2008?
I have read that we should not throw away eggs until day 23 or 24. But, really, if nothing has pipped at all, should I expect anything?
