There is a lot to be said for "no power," actually. When my children were young, we had a record breaking heat wave during our week at the ocean. All of the AC units blew out a transformer (in a spectacular burst of fireworks, I have to say!) The power shut down to virtually the entire town. The power was still out after the sun set, but it was way too hot to stay indoors. We walked the boards and sat on the beach until nearly 2 am, along with a handful of other die-hards who didn't bail and head for home - and we all greeted and spoke with each other like old friends. It's absolutely amazing what you can see and hear when the arcades and the pubs and the stores all shut down. It was the first time I'd seen both the waves and the stars at the same time in years - and the first time ever for my children. As young as they were, they remember; and they still talk about the quiet, awestriking beauty of that wonderful, magical, devastatingly HOT night. It's pretty dog-gone cool!Actually saw stars out this morning. Haven’t seen the dipper in a long time. We are too dependent on electricity but I don’t have to tell this group that.
