Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long 2019

Kelsey i rotate where the eggs are each time i candle which is only three times throughout incubation but i know some people swear by it as it evens out the growth rate over all the eggs.

Im calling my hatch finally. The quail all hatched today so i guess i was too late setting them. 5 out of 5 of the sex links 3 boys 2 girls. No wyandottes. One hona. 2 out of 5 cots and 5 out of 6 buttons. Chickens are tryn to molt so i wasnt expecting great numbers from them but theyre still laying so ima keep tryn. Also expected poor from the cots, those are the last eggs before i did the big shake up. Proccessed 7 and moved em all around so in another month ill be able to tryn get better numbers.

Thanks!! This is really helpful!!

And candle at like 7, 10, and 18 right??

I had some mistakes with my eggs and I wasn't sure any would hatch, but so far we have one! Buff Orpington. I have another batch of eggs ready to go. They are frizzles! They were an Ebay order and I have 8, fingers crossed at least half hatch and I get a curly baby!

Due to the delay in getting contests set up, this hatch-a-long will now run until November 29th, the day after Thanksgiving. Set chicken eggs on November 8th, ducks/turkeys/peafowl on November 1st, and Coturnix quail around November 12th.

Now I wish I had more eggs! :hit:hit:hit Its best I don’t though. My four chicks that hatched last week are lively and busy and one has a sassy attitude. They are mixed breeds so I don’t know if this matters but 3 of the four have very conspicuous wing barring. The fourth is all black and is a who knows. If I have four cockerels I’m going to start with a bachelor group. I have a good place for them to live and I think it’ll work out.

I think I should've just stuck with my own eggs. I spent only $8 so I'm not like oh my gosh I just spent $50 on eggs that are weird.

I was worried about adding my flocks offspring because my roosters will mate with anything (all roosters will). I was worried about line breeding.

Oh and check out my muscovy Coco... She learned how to fly 9 feet up at only 9 weeks. We were quite shocked to see that. View attachment 1949664
:love I had a silkie that decided she would roost on top like the big girls....finally figured out that she would jump on the door and then up to the roof!:D
Hopefully someone will say :fl
depends on how often you candle....I tried to rotate mine about every 3-5 days

I think I'm going to put in a dozen, I have some of mine I put with those 5. Funny how everyone says something different about incubating eggs. This is the part I have difficulty with because I get lost with certain things people say.

I was shocked they almost didn't sell eggs to me. I was kind of insulted in a way
