Hands on hatching and help

I was tired of the death rate by second hatch. I shut the heat lights off. No eggs their mooting and I trying to figure out how else I can fix the incubator. Might put insulation and wood in there. My thoughts where to get a shower rod or Windows valences rod and put it between the bookcase and house.Outside top 44 inches.26and 1/2 inches sides 34 inches .inside 37 sides top to bottom 24 1/2. 25 1/2. Dog house space. Book case to house 38 1/2 inches.dog house north east 28* my ducks our looking at it weird too.

Yea well I want to replace my golden sex link chicken.really disappointed my chick came with a hernia. I managed to keep her alive these week. I have to wait to replace both.

So I had 4 oegb that were suppose to hatch today, apparently my temp was way down at 94.... *** anyways 1 made it and internally piped last night. So this morning I got up and it piped the shell but only one very small hole and wasn't moving very much anymore, so I opened the shell ever so slightly and came back an hour later still nothing he was peeping and moving his head slightly but nada, so I opened the air sack area completely and then replaced the shell, misted the Bator and closed it back up. Came back every hour no changes...... so at 430 I decided to open the shell almost all the way bring cautious not to pull the shell away where the cord is attached. Once I got 3/4 of the shell moved away I could see that the yolk sack was pulled in and looked good so I took my tiny clippers and detached the remaining "stuff" no blood lose or anything.... he was very weak so I misted the Bator put him back in and waited an hour came back he was doing good gave him a tiny bit of water and now he's up and moving like he should be after they hatch.... so happy I stepped in he's so cute ....
Congrats! Good job!! Do you have sav a chick in the water or nutri drench to give him to help boost him? I think, chicks do better with a little enhanced water after hatch especially those that have had a hard hatch and may be dehydrated or weaker.

I'm all for assisting when it's needed! But only when it's needed. I kind of feel like not assisting because they are weaker is similar to not giving a sick person medicine when they need it. Sometimes the person will always be sickly, but sometimes they just need a little help to get back on their feet! I do think there's validity to not assisting though. If you don't know what you're doing and help before it's needed there could be problems, so I understand the hands-off approach.

I had my first ever hatch the other day and it was stressful, and wonderful and I'm so happy to see these little chicks running around the brooder!
I had several missteps along the way though. They were shipped eggs and the temperature got low, so we should've expected problems. My fiance helped one who got stuck in the middle of unzipping and he's now very healthy! There was another one who was similar who I might've been able if I had been a bit more confident and trusted my gut. He was overdue and others had already pipped, but we knew he was alive even though he hadn't pipped. Turned out he had his feet above his head! There's no way he could've pipped like that! Too bad I thought he just needed some more time... Lots of things go weird in nature and even more when we ship and artificially incubate eggs. Live and learn, right? Next time I'll be better prepared

I have way too many lav orp eggs :barnie

Guess I'm going to have to set a couple dozen :/

If my brooders and grow out pens weren't full of chicks I would gladly take some of those off your hands! lol
I think I have 59 babies under 8 weeks old
Of course the 16 barred rock cockerel packing peanuts I got with a chick order from Ideal in April didn't help matters at alllll.

:lau u shound like me! She and I are close, but she knows I have 80 birds under 12 wks old :lau

Again like you, most won't be here in six months. 20+ are CX who won't stick around long :p and then half the 15 quailing will be tasty plus any other cockrels who look yummy ;)

I have a red paint, I have to admit, I thought he was a Messy Sloppy Silkie.  Why?  because I thought his red spots was dirt, I kept trying to clean him up by bathing him and DANG IT, those dirty spots would NOT come off.  LOL I finally accepted the fact they aren't going to come off.

He's a COCKY Rooster today, he's even attacked me a couple of times, he's really bad when his lady friends are sitting on eggs.  OMG, he's sooo mean.  But when they aren't sitting, he will do this circling dance in front of me.  LOL  constantly Stickying his chest out and twirl.  The funniest thing ever.  he's probably ****** at me because of all the baths I have giving to him trying to get those dirty spots off of him. LOL  One thing for sure, he's a VERY clean Silkie, not by choice though. LOL

That is funny! Do you know what colors his parents were?

Especially with shipped eggs! I had one In my last hatch that pipped underneath and wrong end. When I finally started helping I saw his foot was right up above the crown of his head. I'm so happily surprised he was able to pip at all. Now I don't even know which one that was.

My friend bought some hatching eggs locally from me and gave me 2 of the chicks back....noticed today that they are both definitely boys! Ugh. I won't eat a silkie boy!...to many feathers, to little meat! :gig

My shipped call eggs are on day 5 and it looks like 7 are developing! Air cells still detached. And wanna hear something crazy? On the local call eggs I could see development starting in 1 of them after only 24 hours of incubation! Right in the center. Duck eggs are so amazing to see into. And on one of them I do not see a yolk at all. Can an egg have no yolk? The whole thing looks clear!
Here's 3 sides of the egg:
