Hands on hatching and help

I was thinking about the chick I had that had it legs forward and would do that happy feet dance. After 24-48 hrs it was fine. Maybe after some time this one will strengthen up. That nutridrench is great!
At least you got 1! Congrats!

Thanks!

Hi there, mutual-crazy-chick-lady!  :D

Thanks for that encouragement.  Seems like I had one of these issues before and I couldn't remember if it was one that recovered, or not.  So maybe this one will  :fl

Congrats on the hatch. :yiipchick   Glad the little AC made it too!
I just got 2 boxes of eggs shipped in yesterday.  Surprisingly, both boxes fared very well.  A few rolly air cells and 2 fairly detached, but overall, not bad.  Chocolate orpingtons and self-blue OEGB's.

I appreciate that!  Thanks!  Just in the few hours from the time I got up until I left for work, I saw good improvement.

And as bad as that Nutridrench smells, it is awesome stuff!

:frow :highfive:
Hopefully after it gains some strength in those little legs you'll be able to put it back with momma!
Nice!! Can't wait to see those self-blue oegb's and chocolate orp chicks when they hatch!

I had my first 2 assist pip through a vein. It was so strange. Knowing what I know now I assume they must have been malpositioned. They both lived though. I ordered some ayam cemani from ebay which I know is taking a chance bit I've had good luck with other eggs from this breeder. She is so sweet. They are all at 5 days and developing. If they turn out to be what they are supposed to I'll give you her profile to order some. She is very reasonably priced. :)

Thanks for offering

Hope you have a great hatch and get the birds you're hoping for! eBay can be very hit or miss with hatching eggs. Sounds like you found a trustworthy seller.

Trying to kill eggs experiment...

Step 1. Remove 8 eggs from broody after 1 week incubation.
Step 2. Place eggs on kitchen counter.
Step 3. Leave eggs alone for one week.
Step 4. Place eggs in killerbator (Janoel 48)
Step 5. Don't add water and see where humidity ends up.
Step 6. Wait until eggs pip externally, then raise humidity to 50%
Step 7. Open killerbator 5-10 times a day.

Experiment failed, lol. Five chicks fluffed, three externally pipped.

All joking aside, I wish I had this sort of luck with peafowl.

Yeah I've had issues before. This one is so sweet though. I ordered some jubilee orpingtons and when they hatched one looked different. I sent a pic and asked what she thought is was and her guess was a blue laced red wyandotte. He husband recently had a stroke and they accidentally grabbed a wrong egg. I told her I wasn't worried about it but she insisted on sending me more eggs free of charge. :)

I take way too many pics of my chicks and ducks, so I'm sure you will see a few!

I swear, after watching my broodies this year, I wonder why I was so sensitive with the incubator!

Amazing little critters.

How bout some pics?

Thank you all for the comraderie. Its nice to know there are other crazy chicken Mama's. :D Congrats to those with recent hatches and saves! There have been so many and that little serama is gorgeous!
I just wanted to jump on and announce I have my first internal pip. So cool to see!
Also, regarding these being shipped eggs. 2 of them DID have saddle shaped air cells, but on day 18 I decided to lay them on their side over night to see what happened and they actually fixed themselves. They've all drawn down now and are shaped perfect, but I'm still not sure about positioning. I have a feeling that there may be some issues with that and I'm hoping for at least a 50% hatch so that they will have a buddy. Only 4 out of 6 eggs made it past day 7. One wasnt fertile and one was scrambled.

Shipped do tend to need more assistance due to malpositions. Make sure you check the bottom of the egg that's laying on the floor for pips. I've never gotten out of a shipped hatch without a couple that scare me when I life the egg and hear pepping but don't see a pip. I turn them over and little beaks are sticking out the pointy end!

Is it common to have an internal pip but no noise? And do their respirations speed up once they pip? From my medical background, it makes sense that with the increase in CO2 would come increase in respirations. My little chick is quiet and breathing fast.

This year I've had so many quiet internal pips. It freaked me out at first too. Now I'm ok with it since all hatched out fine.

That is crazy! I read that once the heart starts beating and you remove heat for extended time periods they will die but before the heart starts you can incubate on & off and actually extend the life of the egg. But I know by day 7 those hearts are beating!
