Hands on hatching and help

Lol, I've got eight of them on me right now. I am trying very hard to get them to imprint. I love myself some friendly duckies.

You need Calls, lol... I barely handled this one...

Well, here I sit......and sit.....and sit.......

If anyone has any bright ideas about how to keep this stoopid Farm Innovators at a steady temp and humidity I'm all ears...er, eyes. I wanted to use it as a hatcher, but not if it can't maintain.  Too much riding on this hatch to make a dumb mistake at this point in the game.

That little knob is a beech to barely change, isn't it? I've found with the FI, I just let it run a little low. Seems like if I try to bump it up, just the lightest bit, it goes too high, so I'd rather just let it run a little low. It fluctuates alot, according to the Spot Check, but stays in a decent range, so I try not to touch it. (I taped the cap off a hairspray bottle over the knob lol)

Serama eggs in the Brinsea will likely be hatched in the Brinsea. Even though I love the view in the FI, and I've had good hatches in it, it still just can drive me crazy.

Blooie - I'd use the Brinsea.  It may look cramped to us, but it has more room than under a hen... :gig

Yep! :D

Ok. So I have 8 chickies out 5 nns and 3 feathered necks. The only one left is the malesposition pipper, and he's still got quite a bit of yolk and veining at the bottom. You can see all the way down into the bottom of the egg from the hole, luckily.  I am keeping the yolk sac moistened and giving the little guy little sips of sav a chick water and he's perky, but not much you can do with the unabsorbed yolk and veining. Hopeing something happens oer night.

Working my butt off trying to get things done for my mini vaca. Did my niece's cake for the baby shower tonight. Now my back is killing me. Couple more things to take care of and then I can finally sleep for a few hours.

I'm waiting on a final malpo also. Good luck for a fun trip!
Yes, where are the cake pics? Lol

Yes, I agree with Friday, just keep them in the brinsea. Are you able to get good humidity in the 20 for lockdown?

I just hatched almost 30 eggs in the 20! I didn't think all the ones I set would make it to lockdown but they did...talk about cramped! :gig (and they did fine).

I had an egg like that. Can't remember if it was malpositioned or not but it took forever and every time I checked it had huge veins, so there was abstnothing I could do. It started getting all sticky because the pip hole that it made was very large and exposed a lot of the inside of the egg. I just had to wait and wait and wait. You're doing a great job!!

Yes, cake pics, please!

I am drowning in ducklings! 10 out and one more pipped, and yet another internally pipped. Seeing as how I bought 12 eggs I can't be disappointed with those numbers :D

Congratulations!!

I just love the looks they make with their eyes. It's almost like their facial expressions change by the look they give you. So much personality with that one in your pics! I love it! My lo got a little brave yesterday. It was time to go inside and usually when I start walking he follows and cries till I pick him up but this time he didn't want to go in and made me chase him!... He is an official teenager now.

Left for work and my wrong-end-pipper has not made progress, but is still alive. About 20 hours since pip, so I guess I'll start assisting this afternoon, if it isn't out on its own.

A few pics of the others: (bantam cochins - blue frizzle father, cuckoo mother)

3 boys

Biggest boy, I think he hatched first. Super friendly.

This girl got her daddy's blue coloring, I'm assuming girl since no white head dot. She's grumpy! lol
@RavynFallen could this still be male with no head dot? (barred mother) Or does anyone know? I'm awful with genetics!

And this little girl has some star gazing issues.
Doing better this morning, but I'm getting nutridrench today, hoping I'm not too late to fix her.

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. I'll keep 'em in the Brinsea, but I think I'll keep the FI going anyway. If it looks like it's getting too rough in there, I can transfer the chicks to it and let them finish drying off without knocking everything else in the Brinsea to kingdom come.

Humidity hasn't been a big problem in the Brinsea so far. It rises and falls a bit, but there aren't any drastic swings. I calibrated the hygro using the salt/water/baggie method, and this one was easy to adjust to get it where it should be reading after several hours in the bag. Thermometers are a whole 'nuther ball game. Not one of them reads exactly the same. I've come to the conclusion that digital wireless thermometers that also show tenths of a degree just can't be calibrated accuritely. I drowned one transmitter because I forgot to put it in the Ziplock bag which was laying right next to the ice water. Did the other ones and they were all a full degree off, or more.

So if I ever do this incubating thing again, I won't do it until I find the perfect glass bulb thermometer. I'm a woman on a quest!! In the meantime, I have no clue what's happening inside those eggs right now. Hatch day isn't technically until tomorrow, so patience, Grasshoppah.

@BYC910 recommended this one to me, I got two and they are both very accurate. Cheap, too!
