One looks like it might have splayed leg, it was upside down in the egg. Does this look like splayed leg?

Well I did it again.. I ordered 6 jubilee orpington hatching eggs. That put me over the limit so I had to buy another small incubator, whoops.. :/

Great job!! So cute. Please post more pics once they are all dry.
Looks like you got some blue fawns, cute!

That is a big webby, lol.....

That's what I was thinking!

Looks like my broody cemanis will only have one chick. Some of the other eggs vanished, one was broken (which I suspect was the fate of the missing eggs) and two were late deaths. So they have one chick - and they might not even get that one if they don't shape up. When I pulled them from the nest into the chick raising area they were totally ignoring the poor thing and instead going crazy scratching in the shavings while it cried. I stuffed them and the chick back into the nest and they settled down and it went under them but if they don't shape up they won't get to keep it.

I'm also pretty miffed. I did the first candling on the sultan eggs I got. 14 were sent to me for free besides the cost of shipping. Those are doing phenomenally. All except two that had floating air cells are developing. Then there's the 12 I paid for. First, I was a little annoyed that I didn't get sent any extras, but they all arrived intact, so no harm, no foul. However, upon candling, only 2 of 12 are developing! And it's not a case of rough shipping because their air cells are all intact. Plus they all came in from the same area of Florida, just two different breeders, so I really wouldn't be surprised if the boxes were together for most of the journey.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I was sent eggs that aren't even fertile. When I get home I think I'm going to crack some and check for the bullseye. I'm debating messaging the seller. I know shipped eggs are a gamble but to have only 2 of 12 intact eggs with perfect air cells start developing...something's not right there.

That stinks about the eggs! Was this through eBay? How were the reviews. Maybe there was drastic temp changes that could have affected viability?

I have anew broody too and she left the chicks screaming and wandered off. (but there is always an "auntie" keeping an eye on them) She won't sit on them but she's always within a foot of them. I hope the mom shapes up though. So far I've only had 1 silkie mom that was excellent. She was a little older too, so I hope some of these girls get better with practice!

It wasn't through eBay, but rather through a breeder who I've been emailing. Sultans are a fluffy breed, so it's totally possible mating was going on and fertilization just wasn't happening. I would suspect possible temp swings but the other eggs (same breed, same ship date, shipped from within an hour of where the eggs in question were shipped) are all developing except two that were just too shaken up in shipping. Maybe these eggs were left somewhere hot at some point, though, that's a possibility. I'm going to crack them and check for bullseyes.

Boil the water and tear the sheets, we have a broody hen! Just waiting for dark to fall so we can move her into our thrown together 'broody box'. She can't be sitting on more than three eggs, but she seems very determined so far. I had to work tonight and got home to a sobbing daughter because I wasn't here to deal with the broody and she didn't know what to do. Poor kid.

I am at 3,000 ft-mountain rage 2,000 ft at the center of town. I am in between. Still trying to get a hang of water crystals. It's been crazy around here. Don't have time to get on much. We made a few changes around here. Humidity pads came so did the water fountain we ordered.maybe weekend it will slow down.

Looked at the incubators on that computer fan. All I could find online was where people have used it in place of what they had in there. Without paying for the upgrade part. And my partner said the chick would run into it and die even if he could mount it correctly on a full hatch chicks and ducks claim the eggs. If ducks would of loved that long.and still the voltage would still be a tad tricky to keep going without burn up or burn out.

My three Serama eggs have all pipped this morning. Exciting! I heard they often quit during the hatch though so we will see. I'm intrigued to see what happens, the eggs are sooooo tiny - an inch long at most.

You can fabricate a spacer to go between the top and bottom halves of the incubator, which would raise the lid and the fan. I know I saw a post where someone did that and it seemed like a good idea, especially if you hatch taller things like turkeys. I might try to fabricate something like that after I am done with this year's hatches.

I think anyone who sells eggs should check a few for a bullseye. It seems wrong to do otherwise. Yes, you could still have some unfertilized, but you should do your best to make sure your "product" is as good as possible by checking for fertilization and packaging properly.

How exciting! I want some Serama eggs, but am nervous about getting shipped eggs again after my turkey failure :/
