I'm happy to hear about everyone's great hatches and broody hatches. And I'm so sorry Amy, about your little silkie. I already told Amy this but my little toddler wandered into the run while everyone was out free ranging and I was burning wood for ash for the new dust bath and he picked up the wooden ramp that leads to the coop and dropped it on one of my favorite paint hens! She died almost instantly. I was kicking myself for even letting him go in there but I never thought that would happen. Each experience gives us lots to learn. It's not your fault, Amy. It happens to all of us.
Anyway, the ducks and chickens are all doing good and my neighbor is going away for the weekend and I'm taking care of his animals. He's paying me by letting me keep whatever peahen eggs I collect! So I will have some available to ship on Tuesday if anyone is interested. I took pics of the parents today.

Thanks. You're a sweetheart. I can happily report that my little black silkie with the leg injury is doing better this evening. Still favoring the leg quite a bit, but she is putting more weight on it and walking a little more normal. I'd say she's gone from hobbling to limping, which is improvement, so I'll take it. Hoping that the improvement continues. She's eating, drinking and pooping normally, so all good there.

Right now if I fill 1 well I'm at 75%. During winter I use a tiny cap in the second well and fill 1 to get to 75%. This is a really cheap, but surprisingly accurate hygrometer that fits on the back dome perfect.

That is so funny because I have a pot bellied pig that wanders into my yard too! It goes right up to the chicken run and the chickens go bizzerk!!
Amy said it already, and I didn't know it was the left wing either. :)
Can you take the turner out and use it like the Eco? My best hatches are in the mini Eco with hand turning. If you can then definitely go for it!

I'm pretty sure it's basically the same as the Eco mini. The only difference is the advance has a cooler. :) I think I will just take the turner out. Thanks :)

Welcome back! What color are the parents of the pea eggs? I might be interested :)
 
Found another empty egg under my broody and hear chirping, but didn't see them. It's a bit chilly outside, so I'll wait till it warms up some before I try and peek under her further.

Candled a few eggs under my other 2 broodies last night. One is about day 18, and a couple look a little behind, but some look great. Second broody may have gotten a couple of clears, but only day 7, so I'll give them a few more days.

@RubyNala97 Thanks for the hygrometer rec! I wasn't even sure where to start on those. (Especially since I was hoping my own hen would raise these eggs and the incubator was back up. REALLY GLAD I bought the 'back up' now.)




As of 11:30 last night, 5/7 have hatched. All but the very first one have had attached umbilical cords still, but most of them snapped off on their own as they came out of the eggshells. When I moved #5 to the brooder this morning (about 5 am, it's closer to 6 now), I found that one of the two remaining eggs had apparently been knocked completely upside down in the night and started screeching up a storm as soon as I turned on the kitchen light.

I'm nearly positive the two remaining eggs didn't do their external pips until early yesterday afternoon, so we could still have quite a bit of time to go, yes?

The one that had been knocked upside down, though, was the one that pipped into the edge of its internal membrane and caused a little bit of bleeding. I could see it struggling some this morning and there was a lot of dried membrane and a little dried blood right around the pip hole. I opened the hole up just a bit further into the air cell and moistened the edges of its membranes with antibiotic ointment (the pain-free stuff I already keep on hand for the big flock). I think it might zip sometime in the next couple of hours. It's been pretty active this morning in the shell.



I'm pretty sure this is going to be the last to hatch, and probably not until this evening. I widened its pip hole a little bit this morning, too, just because I couldn't see where its beak was anymore and wanted to make sure it hadn't positioned funkily if it had been knocked around in the night. It's chirping lightly from inside the egg, but not acting like its in a rush to do anything.



Now my main dilemma is deciding if I go out for the day excursion we had planned with my mother-in-law. Because we'll be two hours away from home for most of the day. When we planned the excursion 2+ weeks ago, I didn't know chickies were going to be so late. *sigh*
