Oh, I have!! I saw one on fb one day and had to go look them up to see if they were real....lolI love royal palms. I would've gone with them but I was able to pick up four Narragansett eggs locally so I ended up going with them. They're actually quite pretty too - at least displaying males are.
Also, check out ocellated turkeys![]()

Wasn't she on a couple other eggs? What happened to them? You could either give her a few more new ones, knowing she may not stick out the full process, or just let her get tired of sitting.
There's also a thread on how to break one, but I've never tried that.
This is one of the reasons that I would never leave chicks in the incubator for prolonged periods of time, (over 24 hours). While yes, in theory a chick can survive off the absorbed egg yolk for up to 3 days, we, one, do not know when the chick fully absorbed the yolk-according to the Cobbs development chart this usually takes place between day 19 and 20, which would mean those that do already are useing that source. And you also have to consider the possibility of dehydration that takes place during hatching. I like mine to at least have the electrolyte enhanced water and food available and then if they are not ready to eat- no foul, but it's available. Almost all of my chicks are at least drinking within the first 24 hours, a good share w/in the first 12. Eating is hit or miss. I get some that are pecking and eating in the first day and some that really aren't interested until the second day.
Glad to hear that she is doing better.
Nobody told me how cuddly turkeys are! Good thing these were intended to be pets or I'd be in trouble trying to eat them. I've had to cover their brooder because twice now I've been awoken in the night by both of them getting out of the brooder and into bed with me to snuggle.
I have never heard that, but I think on the average they are naturally drinking way before eating. I don't worry so much about the eating. It's the access to water that I am more concerned about.Update on my wry girls...the one that was the worst off, that I actually thought might not make it on her own, is showing improvement today. Totally not out of the woods but she ate and drank a lot for me tonight (and on her own quite a bit). The other one who wasn't as bad is actually worse. I keep reading they get worse before getting better and each day I say to myself "tomorrow is the last day I'm going to try", but it's super hard to give up on animals. I started them both on antibiotics tonight, thanks to Kathy and her amazing dosing abilities I was able to get a good amount in today! @casportpony
She had 3 to start. 1 went missing and then I guess the second one went missing too. The more I think about it, I think the hen with the dead chick was the second egg because of how developed it was. The last egg (the crushed one) I believe is gone. No movement. I'll open it up tomorrow. I'm way to tired tonight just in case it's not and I need my brain to work on an assist. It's been 3 weeks I hope she just gives up. She's been sitting on nothing since yesterday. 1 more broody to go! But another has been sitting in a nest box quite a bit for the last couple days. I'm hoping she's not even thinking about it! How's yours & the babies doing?
Same here! I read somewhere that you should get the chicks all drinking good before eating otherwise they get pasty butt. Anyone else ever hear that?
Yes! I've heard they are just as bad as peas! This guy actually did major studies on imprinting and he picked wild turkeys and I believe he wrote a book or maybe just articles on how strongly they imprinted on him. I read some of it, it was very cool!

Chick pictures incoming!
First, a group shot of the ACs. The one in front had a lot to say about me dragging them away from their nice warm brooder.

Next, the NN chicks. The one in the middle was the total assisted hatch. The one on the right is my Independence Day baby.

These next ones are maybe cheating a little because I didn't hatch them myself, but I figured you guys would still appreciate them.

I sure hope they improve for you.
I've never heard that about pasty butt, but it could be valid I suppose.
I was gone to camp all weekend, and gave the full assist chick to Momma Katherine before I left on Friday. Pulled 2 out of the coop, put 3 back in, ao maybe she wouldn't be suspicious. Luckily I put a band on its leg, or I wouldn't know which chick it is! Its perfect!
Its the blue one furthest from her.
