Hands on hatching and help

With the side air cell on the Java there really isn't anything you can do but monitor it closely at hatch time and hope that it can internally pip into the air cell.

Are the seabrights shipped? If they are just remember that a clear shipped egg does not always mean that it's infertile. Most of the time it is fertile but no longer viable due to shipping damage. That would definitely apply with the eBay eggs. I'm not saying all were fertile but hopefully anyone selling hatching eggs knows they have high fertility and it's caused from shipping.

The last pic with all the eggs and the 31% humidity, what day are those on?? If it's past day 14 I would say they look pretty good...maybe a tad big.
Fully feathered by 6 weeks. But mostly feathered by 4.
Post pics when you can! :)
What happened? Did he zip on his own?

No it didn't zip. It started doing something weird with its mouth. I don't know if you've ever seen an animal pass away but if you have you know when their mouth starts gasping? It opens and closes in that strange way... it started doing that in the incubator. It's been fine all day so I don't know why. Most of the veins had receded so I decided to help it out. I was worried about the gasping. The hatch was fine but it's navel was partially unhealthy and started bleeding. I covered it in cornstarch which is why you see powder in the pic lol. It's stopped bleed now and doing much better. I was really worried though. Even after hatch it was gasping for a min. It's stopped now. I don't know what would make it do that?

Well it's starting to run around with the others. It seems almost as good as the others now. :) I just checked the 2 eggs that looked not so good. One had internally pipped through a vein if that makes sense. It was malpositioned and bled out before it could make an external pip. The 2nd also malpositioned had its head tucked into the middle. You couldn't even find it. It also looked shrink wrapped. I never found its beak. It was also dead though. :(

I had a call duck egg that was an assist but actually did do the zip on its own but had half the shell stuck to it and I dont know why but after a minute or two I just opened the incubator and looked to see what was going on. Good thing I did because it had an open navel with some yolk still out and a big active vein that was filling up the shell with blood. I couldn't see any of that from outside the incubator. I was not expecting to see the blood since it zipped on its own. I panicked when I saw all the blood and just acted. I grabbed scissors and cut the vein and applied pressure with a paper towel. The bleeding stopped and I swabbed the yolk with bacitracin and put it alone in the incubator. Hours later it was fine. And this egg had been in the hatching process for 4 days!! Obviously something was going on and that's why it still hadn't absorbed everything but now it's a healthy, messy duckling! Good save on the little guy!

Thanks. It's funny cause my husband isn't in to the whole chicken thing but as soon as he saw the cemani he was like these ones are mine lol. The blood thing is strange. I actually have had it happen quite a few times where they start zipping and I see blood. I think it's because they are malpositioned or maybe the air cell isn't in the right position. I hope to figure it out so I know how to prevent it in the future.

Cute! It's pretty likely those little guys in the first picture with the white wing tips are going to get in a white feather or two. Likely they will molt them out at some point though. How are their feet? Any white/pink/orange or did they hatch all black?
