Hands on hatching and help

I've definitely had a few bad batches as well. All bantams and all really special to me. Isn't that the way of it though.. :)

Yes, that's always the way. Same thing with predator attacks, I've heard that they always get your favorites and most special. It's so sad!

Isn't she awesome! Ruby is a true jewel.

@RubyNala97 have to also add that the zorb is doing a fantastic job in the Eco. Staying stuck on 70% humidity. Can't thank you enough for that ease of my mind. :hugs I owe ya!!
X2 what Amy said. My last set of sebright eggs, I had sold some, so when I went to set some, I only had 13 that were 10 days old or less. Since I had room, I added 5 more that were like 3 weeks old. All of the new 13 developed, but none of the 5 did. I've seen people test older eggs successfully, but that was my only attempt at older eggs.

I'm so happy!! I know that for me, in my house, the paper towel just didn't cut it. I like the humidity a little higher so that if I need to open up the lid I can. When I'm struggling with humidity I feel like I can't open and I hate that feeling.

I'm one of those weird ones that gets good results with old eggs. Don't ask me how!

Oh, I have 2 pips in self-blue OEGB eggs! :ya nothing in the choc orps yet, but they are larger and its only day 19.

@Pyxis what's going on with yours? And who else was hatching with us?? I know i remember a few people saying they set around the same time!

Edit... dang autocorrect :/

:celebrate that's good news about the hatch! I was one of the ones that set but I had so much going on that I thought it would be best not to go through with it. It had been 48 hours and I candled and unplugged the incubator. I saw life in one of the eggs already so I gave that one to my last broody. Now there are a total of 4 girls sharing the 1 egg and it's zipping as we speak!! I wonder what will happen now?? Are they all going to care of one chick?? 3 of the girls just started sitting last week while I was on vacation. Will this lione chick fill their desire after only 7 days? LOL! I can't figure out my broodies.

That'll be interesting. Always the favorites!! Sucks so bad. I still come close to tears when I see pics of my fav. Just makes me mad at myself all over again!

On shipping a lot of the handling is done by machine sorters, so it really is a crap shoot on how well the eggs do... but I do know one person who labels theirs 'Live Wasps' and the %'s of hatches from them are stellar...

Also seen deformed hatches from healthy, diverse genetic stock when eggs were shipped too... it's always best to err on the side of caution and not breed those, but never assume anything when eggs are shipped...

Oh, and I have some eggs going into lockdown as well... 14 white Silkie eggs shipped from a friend and it was 100% development and 100% going into lockdown... :fl

Live wasps!!!!! Brilliant!! Ya, I bet they are careful with those. lol

I was sent shipped eggs. 23 sent, 22 are developing. It's just amazing! I candled at day 6 and candled today at day 12 and they're all doing great. The seller was none other than RubyNala97.

I'm not one bit surprised! After 3 dismal attempts, I was "persuaded" to try once more, and had eggs shipped from @RubyNala97 The eggs were so fresh when she shipped them out that even after they arrived I was hard pressed to even find air cells. I have 7 beautiful little Silkies out in the coop from those eggs, and one very happy little granddaughter!

I love it lmao. I'm going to start requesting that haha

:yesss:   Congrats!   How do the ACs look?  And do keets hatch quick like chickens or slow like ducks?

The ACs look great! All three I'll be growing out for sure and then if they still look good, they'll stay. I'm looking to replace my two current roosters so even the boys have a good shot of remaining here. The keets are usually quick like chickens - I noticed two pips last night and I expect both of those to be out today.
