Hands on hatching and help

1583? Not 1588? Don't think I've seen the 1583. I like the view on my FI too, and it's still air, so I can actually hear peeping! The Brinseas are quiet, but still overpower light peeps.

And yes, I still have the lavs. They aren't laying worth a %#*$. I'm waiting for about 10-12 eggs within a decent time frame, but I need to set some soon! Customers wanting them and the girls are freeloading. I did change roosters last fall. Have 2 sons in there now.
I agree bull! My ones that have been laying well will skip cooler days. I got several less eggs today, it's been cold for a couple days. I also think they lay better after some free range time, but I've had so many haybale sightings, I haven't been letting them out unless I can stay with them.

The fuzzy footed ones are some of the prettiest chicks I've ever hatched. Don't tell hubby that these aren't showing up on CL

The 1583 is the non digital version of the 1588. A lot of my research with the 1588 shows that when you up the humidity above 65% it throws off the thermostat controls and you have to keep resetting it. Well, you know how I like to have my humidity high at hatch.....lol. Plus, it's about $40 or more cheaper than the digital version.

And I agree with the ranging. If my chickens get to range a couple consecutive days they lay much better than when they are cooped up.

They go straight when you stand it up I font think it's going to make it starting to just lie there

I would brace them for spraddle leg.

Oh, nice. I saw the pic of it. That makes good sense to me. When I bought the second Brinsea, its the non-digital one and it scared me at first, but really, I only use the digital part to set anyway.
I don't go by those numbers!

SO ---------- DID YOU SET THE EGGS YET??

I set 20 at 6:30 this morning, and just added 2 more I just brought in. Lol so, 22 set. If there's any more when I go out later I'll throw those in as well..lol I have them all marked with dates, so I know which are the late ones to the party.
When I set the 20 this morning, temp went down to 97, when I checked two and a half hours later it was right back up to between 99-100 holding steady. (With the lg it took me all day to get it back where I needed it!) I inched it foreward to maintain 100 on the two Springfields, the glass one reads the same. The accurite reads between 1-2 higher, but just about every accurite I have had reads a tad higher. I bought this one last week mainly for the hygrometer, my old one was off, but also because it has the high/low readings. I reset it when I put my eggs in so the high/low will reset everyday at the same time I added the eggs, so I can keep better track. I just had to rewet my sponge it was drying out and down around 30%. But it's been between 40-47. I can't wait to see how many develop!

Thanks to all the help from everyone here over the last few months I was able to maneuver a crisis w/ my new cabinet incubator yesterday... the humidity dropped and shrink wrapped over 20 babes I think I will be able to save most of them only 2 have died but appeared to have other issues. It was my largest hatch ever and only my second using that incubator so today I'm relieved as most were able to be moved into the brooder this morning only a few are still sticky in the nicu bator!
